Hi

More RAM will help, however, this is a difficult question to answer specifically because the performance also depends on what other software is running in the background.

I have a lower spec machine with 4Gb of RAM and Virtual memory set to 4Gb with a maximum of 12Gb  - I have very little running in the background as a result I have very few problems with full HD video (mts format).

. . . .16GB Virtual Memory . . .

Is this what Windows 7 is setting or have you set this manually.

How big are the AVI files or the total number of AVI files in the project and what is actually inside them - AVI is a container format not a video format - use GSpot or MediaInfo to analyse a file to determine what is actually inside it.

Thanks John.

I didn't know AVI was a container (hell I didn't know videos were stored in containers... they should call them jewel files).

I'll try the Sw you mentioned to see if it helps... I'm on a strict budget and can't just dump cash whenever I need to try something so I hoep that links you've provided are free.

To answer your question, the AVI file is about 2.9GB.. is that big? (I think it is but maybe its not that big)

Hi Paul

The software is free.

At 2.9Gb that is not a relatively big file, I have recently finished a 7 movie project, with approx 27Gb of HD video,  without too much of a problem, except where there were complex transitions which exhibited some jerkiness of playback in MEP at the transitions.

AVI, MOV and MP4 fle formats are the most common container files.

. . . . jewel files . . .

Not heard that exoression !
