Path settings for new projects

Magix Audio Cleaning Lab 2017 Version 22.1.0.38 (DP3)

Windows 10

My path settings for new projects is as follows

{C:\Program Files (x86)\MAGIX\Audio Cleaning Lab\Magix Audio\}, (default, I believe). Yet all the HFO files keep appearing in a folder Magix creates in the 'My Documents' folder. If I delete this file, when I open a project in Magix, the graphics for the project are rebuilt and stored in a newly created folder in the 'My Documents' folder. As these files are not actually "My Documents" is there a way to stop this happening and create a folder within the Magix program for these HFO files?

Thank You.

Hi

. . . . My path settings for new projects is as follows {C:\Program Files (x86)\MAGIX\Audio Cleaning Lab\Magix Audio\} (default, I believe) . . . .

This is bad practice and you risk damaging the program installation, creating an odd behaviour or breaking the software completely.

The default location for project files is within the My Documents (Documents) folder

            C:\Users\Username\My documents\MAGIX\Audio Cleaning Lab\Magix Audio\     -   Windows 7 and later

or

            C;\Documents and settings\Username\My DocumentsMAGIX\Audio Cleaning Lab\Magix Audio\    -  Windows XP

You also risk losing all your files should you need to remove / re-install the software.

. . . . As these files are not actually "My Documents" is there a way to stop this happening and create a folder within the Magix program for these HFO files? . . . .

No - Windows software is designed to use the My Documents (Documents) folder for storing all user created files and files that are related to them created by a program.

These files should be kept together in a centralised ( 'safe' ) location ie a folder within My Documents (Documents) which the software will use and also make backing up easier.

Sir, Thank you for your reply, reading your answer it would suggest that I have created the path for the new projects to be elswhere other than the 'Documents' folder, this is not the case and that is where the confusion of having two paths arises. I used to have the 2014 version of Audio Cleaning Lab where all the files and folders were contained within the program file; the path that is in the original query is a copy and paste from the dropdown menu in the options settings, it is as was installed, no alterations have been made. The folders containing the BAK & VIP, etc files are in the program folders, it is just these HFO files that appear outside the program folders.

Many Thanks

Hi

Thank you for your reply.

. . . . The folders containing the BAK & VIP, etc files are in the program folders . . . . 2014 version of Audio Cleaning Lab where all the files and folders were contained within the program file the path that is in the original query is a copy and paste from the dropdown menu in the options settings . . . .

At some point these paths have been set incorrectly - these are the default installation paths for ACL 2017

Note - on my PC the Documents folder has been moved to a second hard drive (W:) - I keep programs and user files on seperate hard drives for several reasons.

However as you can see the Magix/Audio Cleaning Lab User files folder is within the Documents folder.

This is the options settings dialog

Your path for the User files should also be in your Documents folder in the location I have indicated below.

Also within the Audio Cleaning Lab folder there should also be a folder called Project files - this is where the HMO and HMP files are stored.

Correcting the User files location and move the project files from the programs folder to the new location and this will the avoid the confusion of having two paths.

I'm also having problems setting the Options --> Path settings... for a new project. When I set it then start a new project and try to Export audio --> MP3 the path displayed is the previous path saved to not the new one I want. Howw do I use this Options --> Path settings...?

I have ACL version 22.2.0.53(DC2) installed a few days ago on a 28 day free trial. OS is Windows 7.

Hi

. . . . Export audio --> MP3 the path displayed is the previous path saved to not the new one I want . . . .

ACL does not have a default Export path setting, however it remembers the last one used, if you change the path in the export dialog, it will remember that path for the next time you export - see Export in the installed PDF manual under Help.

@john-francis

Please start a new thread with your question since, the original thread is quite old and, although the basic problem is related to that of the thread starter, you are experiencing a different situation.

By creating a new thread you are more likely to receive helpful replies! (Regrettably, I can't offer assistance to you since I don't have any version of ACL installed on my computer.)
