Just looking through the Forum and read this posting. I do recall buying a new version of MEP following a recommendation/comment on this Forum as Vasca Da Gama 9 HD Essentials was a program included as an extra and yes, it was installed. Was that last year? I've also saved the Vasca youtube tutorial by John. So definitely had it installed.

Anyway, I have just checked out my MEP Premium, now 17.0.1.130 (I am presuming Vasca originally came with this program) and looked in Plug-ins but it is not listed. I do have the Vasca icon on my Desktop, as if it is a stand alone program, but click on that and the computer cannot find the program.

Now I did have a problem recently with the recent upgrade of MEP and my existing program was uninstalled, and the Forum helped me re-install. I did note that within 17.0.1.130 under Magix Tools there is 'Travel Route'. Presumably this is not the same program?

Am I looking in the wrong place? If not, I can only think Vasca became uninstalled as a recent outcome of the failure at first attempt at the upgrade of MEP, so if this may be the case, do you think there is any chance of a recovery of my lost Vasca program?.

Hi George

I had the same issue on my PC -  was installed with MEP 2017, after the upgrade to 2018 - gone!

Tried running the patch  above - cannot find VdG Essentials.

Tried running the installer from MEP 2017 extras download, I opt to keep the Extras for quicker re-installs, and will not install - wants MEP 2017 installing.

You should, unless you have deleted them, have the VdG installation files in the folder

C:\MotionStudios\Vasco da Gama 9 HDEssential

If they are there run the setup.exe to install.

Then run the update - VdG now works.

. . . . Am I looking in the wrong place? . . . .

I do not think so - AFAICS there is no link to it in MEP 2018 ie it is a separate program. The Travel route animation link under Edit, Wizards is for the OpenStreetMaps version.

Well am pleased in a way that it is just not me.

I did find the exe file John where you said and have both tried the 'install' and 'repair'. It seems to go through the installation process and places a new shortcut icon link on the desktop, but then click on that and again get the attached error message.

I did just out of interest also look down the list of programs installed but. as expected, nothing for Vasca.

Will now have a look at the main website.

Hi

Yes, I have downloaded and installed and everything seemed to go okay but despite the message below, there is no program installed.

I have tried a variety of other access routes and below are different screenshots seen.

As Vasca seems to be looking for a MEP 2017 version, I just wonder whether the fact, looking in my C:Program Files:Magix, it shows MEP 2016 Plus and MEP Premium, that this is the problem?

George,

Your second screenshot references a missing .dll file. I've checked my installation and it is in the main Program folder. If you check where you have VdG 9 installed, is it shown? (Interestingly, I notice the version I have is dated October 2013!)

I've just looked and whilst initially could not see anything, a dll search produced 81 dll files. I have though looked through them and found the OSG100 - OSGText reference.

Now I have no idea what a dll file is or what I should do with it, but did click on it just in case it might be a straight install and got the above warning message.

Hi

@Xenofex2

The location you are looking in is the wrong one the files in c:\MotionStudios\VdG9_Upd_9_Essential are the files used for installing the software.

The program executable file is Vasco da Gama 9 HD Essential.exe which is located in

C:\Program Files (x86)\MotionStudios\Vasco da Gama 9 HD Essential\

and this is where the desktop shortcut should point to.

I have not got MEP 2018 (17.0.1.130) to recognise VdG as a plugin and run it separately from MEP.

A dll (Dynamic Link Library) file is a file that contains sub routines, functions and procedures that can be used by a program, however it cannot be run on its own.

Hi Jeff,

I don't have the version that came with MEP2017 as I didn't buy it. However, I have the full versions of VdG starting with 5 or 6. I looked at the files in my archives for VdG 9, and most of them are dated 2013. I bought the full version 9 in December of 2014. The current version is 10. There is not a lot of difference between 9 and 10, however, you all have a lite version and I am using the pro version.

Thankyou for that information. Something else I have learnt.

Interestingly, another desktop shortcut for Vasca has appeared, and right click that and click on open file location, and yes it does take me to the file location it should.

C:\Program Files (x86)\MotionStudios\Vasco da Gama 9 HD Essential\

Did then click on that Vasca Logo and got the following message.

I guess a link broken somewhere, and possibly as a result of my problems with the recent upgrade. When I scroll through the list of my programs installed, Vasca still does not show as installed, so whether, if it is at all possible, to 'repair a link' gets the program installed as well or this is something more than a 'simple fix' and I will have to contact Customer Support for help, I don't know.

Hi George

I am puzzled why VdG is looking for MEP Premium (2017) which you no longer have after upgrading to 2018. The update, linked to by Peter fixes this so it looks for MEP Premium (2018) and worked fine for me - I have the same version number of MEP Premium as you.

. . . . When I scroll through the list of my programs installed, Vasca still does not show as installed . . . .

Are you are looking in Control panel, Programs and features if so VdG should be near the bottom of the list as shown below

as you can see, mine was installed yesterday (28th).

Also check in the above that MovieEdit Pro Premium is installed and the version number is 17.0.1.xxx

If they check out OK, then I would suggest you uninstall VdG, restart the computer, Windows key, Power, Restart and then re-installed VdG running the setup.exe file again from the folder

C:\MotionStudios\Vasco da Gama 9 HDEssential

then run the patch file immediately - do not start VdG - from the folder

C:\MotionStudios\VdG9_Upd_9_Essential\VDG_Update.exe

You were right, I was not looking via the Control Panel. I had assumed that all programs installed would be able to be viewed via the Windows Key bottom left, and still after attempting the action above, twice, it still not shows as installed here but is in the list of programs seen via the Control Panel.

This is how they appeared both before and after the re-install. I have actioned the suggested action twice now, uninstalling in between each attempt. The first time I installed the upgrade via my own folder and then the second time, as the first did not work, straight from Page 2 of the Magix site.

After the install and upgrade, the only way I can find to access Vasca is to open it from the recently added Desktop icon as Vasca is not showing as recently installed from the Windows key, and regrettably get the same message.

Well the grey cells have certainly been in overdrive today as not only trying to sort out Vasca, somewhere along the line the 'programs & features' list stopped showing 'last date' and 'feature version' and have now solved that one, and soon Vasca?

johnebaker wrote on 9/29/2017, 2:33 PM

Hi George

. . . . to be viewed via the Windows Key bottom left . . . .

VdG is there, it is under the folder MotionStudios

Looking at the Programs and Features image, I can see you still have MEP Premium v16.0.1.22 (2017) installed - this should not be there, however from your previous comment

. . . . Now I did have a problem recently with the recent upgrade of MEP and my existing program was uninstalled . . . .

Did you try to re-install MEP 2017 after the upgrade? If not, I think the upgrade installer did not fully delete MEP v16.0.1.22 (2017) is confusing the situation.

Whether you can uninstall this without affecting MEP 2018 I do not know, however even if it does not affect it, I think VdG will still be looking for MEP 2017 because it is looking at entries are in the registry.

There are 3 options available:

  1. Raise a ticket with Magix here about the incomplete uninstall of MEP 2017 during the upgrade, also point them to this topic.

  2. Rerun the MEP 2018 installer and try to Repair the installation and uninstall/re-install VdG

  3. A complete uninstall (at your own risk) of MEP Premium (both versions) and VdG, clean up any files left behind - see this tutorial, if you are on Windows 10 run the system checks as well.

If the MEP v16.0.1.22 will not uninstall and/or to check all registry entries and remnants have gone, try using Revo uninstaller, I have not used this, however several members here highly recommend it, then reinstall MEP.

If you decide to go down this route check to see which download is available ie the latest version 2018 or 2017 - if it is the 2018 version that would be best.

To find this browse to magix.com and click the My Account icon and login with your email address and password.

Click My Products in the left pane - this will take you to your registered products and download links.

John,

You are right, Vdg was there. Whilst I was looking under the V's in this list, I was also looking right at the top of this scrolling list as the program never appeared under the 'Recently Installed' tab. So I had been looking in the 'Recently Installed' and the 'V's' but not under 'Motion Studios'.

As with the recent 'Upgrade', the installer suddenly stopped around a third of the way through this process and then reversed itself out. I then went to the 'My Account' link and re-installed MEP and this time the subsequent upgrade went through okay.

I am not around all next week and think what I will do now is to raise a Support ticket with Magix.

Finally, I would like to add one more comment. I would like to thank everyone very very much for their help and advice. It has been much appreciated.
