Output volume of exported tracks

Lubomir-Rabatin wrote on 3/24/2022, 5:12 AM

Please what is the best way how to maxime the output volume of exported tracks from MMM?

What i am doing....

When i am arranging midi volume in midi editor, volume of VST instruments, volume curves of VST instruments, mixing and mastering volume and so on, i am trying to set it up to maximum possible volumes - of course to not hear cracks and disruptive sounds of instruments and to not be in "red colours" in the mixer....anyway if i do this maximization, when i export the track to WAV or MP3, output volume is low....OK i can add volume on my HIFI system then, when i am listening it....but is there possibility how to have eported track which will be loud in low volume levels when listening it on other devices? Thanks...

@Lubomir-Rabatin Under Effects or in the Master track in the mixer you will find the Mastering Suite. You could try to use the Multimax-effect with the loudness presets and fine tune them.

Another idea is to use a limiter plugin in the Master tracks FX, for example Magix eFX Limiter and pull the threshold down or Magix coreFX limiter and pull the In Gain up. Or you can use any other limiter plugin of your choice.

Meaning, when you play back within MM, the level is okay?

In addition to @SP's comments, some other thoughts (I know nothing about your setup, so these are all about exploring possibilities). . .
1) do you get the same result if you export a project built with loops only?
2) when exporting to audio file in MM, there is the "Normalize" option.
Do you use this?  If not, what result if you do?
(Note both Audacity and Soundforge have Normalize functions,
but with more control of the resulting levels.)
3) if you listen on the computer (using something like VLC Player,
preferably with headphones), how does the playback level of the
exported audio compare with levels of other music?
4) how do you feed the exported audio file to the HiFi system?
ie: possible hardware or level mismatch?
5) do you feed other audio/music files to your HiFi system in the same way?
If yes, how do their playback levels compare?
6) besides the HiFi system, do you have another device (eg: phone) where
    you can test/compare levels?

Hope this helps,
John

I will try to explain what i want:

Example - simple drum line

Picture 1 - This how volume is set up in VST - to have maximu volume, not to be in orange/red colours in the mixer and to not have disrupted sounds form VST

Picture 2 - This is how volume curves are set up - to have maximu volume, not to be in orange/red colours in the mixer and to not have disrupted sounds form VST

Volume curve -59db

Set volume to +12db

Picture 3 - This how MIDI velocity is set up in MIDI editor - to have maximu volume, not to be in orange/red colours in the mixer and to not have disrupted sounds form VST

Picture 5 - This how treshold in IZOTOPE is set up - to have maximu volume, not to be in orange/red colours in the mixer and to not have disrupted sounds form VST

Picture 6 - This how paramters are set up in eFX limiter- to have maximu volume, not to be in orange/red colours in the mixer and to not have disrupted sounds form VST

Picture 7 - This how volume is set up in mixer- to have maximu volume, not to be in orange/red colours in the mixer and to not have disrupted sounds form VST

Picture 8 - At soundcard Audient ID 4 - levels set up in the middle

With this settings i like the sound and i am in green colour in the mixer...whatever i will try to increase or decrease then the sounds start to be disrupted or i am starting to be in orange colours

This is the result of exported sound which is not disrupted - quliaty of sound is OK - level is too low

This is the result of exported sound when i try to exceed some mentioned paramteres

Now lets say i have on my HIFI volume scale from 0 to 40

When i am listening exported mp3 on my HIFI, I need to adjust volume to 20, to listen it, lets say "normal loud"

I want exactly this sound quliaty but much higher level of exported mp3....i want to adjust on my HIFI volume level 10 and i want to hear it loud

hope i explain it what i want :)

Thanks

I will save all theese settings of all volume levels and tresholds which are in the example....please help me what i need to adjust to have much higher output volume level with same quality of drum sound (not disrupted).....then i can upload here again the results with your hints.....thanks a lot....

@Lubomir-Rabatin Your bass kick sounds fine. The second example has a boosted decay because the quiet parts gets boosted.

I think this is a problem with the export. Are you normalizing the MP3 file? Maybe disable that. Or export as a WAV instead as a MP3 file.

Lubomir-Rabatin wrote on 3/25/2022, 11:10 AM

i tried it now......Here are examples....all with same volume and tresholds settings

it is a pity that i can not upload here .wav files

4 tracks with same volume and treshold settings

1. track - Wav with normalization

2. track - Wav without normalization

3. track - mp3 without normalization

4. track - mp3 with normalization

After differnet export options they still have same volume level...aslo wav files

I need to somehow increase volume level in Magix - before export...i think....but how? without damaging the sound and to still be in green....ach :(

@Lubomir-Rabatin Your examples sound all fine to me and as loud as other songs on my computer. Maybe the problem are the settings on your HiFi system. Have you tried a fully mixed composition and not just a bass drum kick?

Is your HiFi system connected to your computer?

Lubomir-Rabatin wrote on 3/25/2022, 12:07 PM

No ......my HIFI system is not connected to my computer

Here is an example

I saved this drum kick track at USB, played at HIFI and recorded it through MIC for comparision how i hear it - sorry for that noise :)

As i wrote...i have volume scale at HIFi from 0 to 40

Here is example how it sounds at volume level 20

here is example how it sounds at volume level 10

i want to hear it at volume 10 as it sound at volume 20 :)

This is my general problem with single VST and also with whole composition...not only with drum kick.....i need to increase the level of output exported track :(

For example when i am listening some another CD which i have at home...some drum and bass for example....i am listening it at level 10 at my HIFI....theese tracks are mixed that they sounds loud at level 10, and there are big differences in volume level when im going up - one by one up in volume .....my tracks i need to listen at level 20 to be at same loud level

Lubomir-Rabatin wrote on 3/25/2022, 12:31 PM

Yes..they sound really louder at level 10...when i am listening theese commercial tracks at level 20, then they are really really loudy....

SP. wrote on 3/25/2022, 12:31 PM

@Lubomir-Rabatin How about loading these Drum and Bass tracks into Music Maker and use them as a reference track? The Mastering Suite comes also with some kind of auto mastering function that lets you select a reference track of your choice.

Lubomir-Rabatin wrote on 3/25/2022, 3:16 PM

I tried it now :)

i took this drums from commercial track which plays loud at my 10 at my HIFI:)

i used this track as refetrence in mastering suite and then my drums are really louder..here it is:

It really really works :)....really thank you for that hint

It has only one minus :)....mastering suite influence all the others tracks in the project...for example it dramatically changes the sound of claps, percusions and all the other VST

Is possible to apply this mastering suite only for one track in the project?

SP. wrote on 3/25/2022, 3:39 PM

@Lubomir-Rabatin Maybe the following steps will work.

Set your drum track to solo and export the project. Then disable the Mastering Suite and set your drum track to mute. Export the project again.

Import both audio files into a new project. I think you need to set all the mixer tracks to 0db because they are set at -6db in a new project. Then export the combined files.

Lubomir-Rabatin wrote on 3/27/2022, 5:46 AM

Yes...this can work :)

again thanks

Last thing to this....i put more commercial tracks to Magix or to Audicity...and all "loud tracks" were in red colours, but sound was nice....i think i will stop to monitor in mixers if my track are in orange or red or not...if the sound is not disrupted or cracked it does not matter? Or? what do you think? What can happened?

@Lubomir-Rabatin

Hi

. . . . if the sound is not disrupted or cracked it does not matter . . . .

To correct the 'crackling/disruption' increase the audio Buffer sizes to those shown below:
