Only getting audio on a burned DVD

Tom-Bauer wrote on 7/28/2022, 11:39 AM

I loaded 8 video files to a project and burned a DVD. Seven of the files play just fine, but the first one in the project will only play the audio and when I go to the menu screen it shows a different thumbnail. When I preview the project it shows the correct thumbnail and plays both audio and video. The videos were all shot on the same day and recorded on the same SD card. Any ideas on what might have been done to create this situation? Thanks

HI

Do you get the same issue if you export the movie to mp4?

Were any effects added to the first clip?

What is your computer specification and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full - I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

Are the graphics card drivers up to date?

A screen shot of the Program settings, Display options or Device options tab.

Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clip that is causing the issue and post the results, see this tutorial if you are not familiar with MediaInfo on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip.

Did you make any changes to the DVD or BD burn settings?

Hi John,

I don't see an option for exporting to mp4, but do see several other options for exporting. I did try burning the problem file by itself an had success. Both audio and video were on the DVD.

I did not add any effects. Right now I'm just doing basic import and burn although I am starting to look at the effects. I've been using basic Wondershare but wanted to have more options and Magix was recommended.

I've updated My Profile and believe that all of the requested specs are listed.

The Drivers are up to date. I just checked.

I did make burn changes to the Encoder settings in hopes of improving the DVD quality. I slide the Bit Rate and Quality slides more to the right. I've attached the screen shot.

I do find that I learn better by trying things and then addressing problems as they arise rather than trying to memorize the manual first, but I am using and referring to the manual and help tab as I go. Before and after trying things out.

Thanks for your response. It's greatly appreciated.

Hi Tom.

John wants your program settings, not the burn settings. Sorry.

In the program under Program settings, Display options or Device options tab.

It should look something like this.

The right hand block, not the left one.

Tom, I can't provide an answer at the moment but a couple of points:

I don't see an option for exporting to mp4

The menu item is actually "Export movie... Video as MPEG-4"

While you're experimenting, to stop wasting DVDs, on the DVD burn screen you can set the "Burner:: (step 1) to "Image recorder". This will create an ISO (which is, in effect, what gets put onto your DVD). You can open this in VLC Player and have a look at your DVD project to check the movies and menus.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
