Not functioning

Jonathan-Barker wrote on 6/15/2022, 8:55 AM

OK, so I moved a bunch of files to an external hard drive.  I have a dedicated drive (purchased a new hard drive) for the operating system and a separate folder to store the video clips etc in.  It still is not working.  It will load.  It will open up the prior project I was working on with the other version, Sony Vegas, but it will not do anything no matter what I click on.  I can't even close it without opening up the task manager.

Unfortunately, I feel like I wasted my money on this program.  The Sony Vegas offered an upgrade and then I found myself spending another $60.00 for a program that isn't working..  I had some video clips I needed to send to a venue for a show July 22.  I will be out tomorrow through June 27 so I cannot work on it then.  Is there a more comprehensive manual you can send to me?  And it would be very helpful to get some online support, perhaps someone who could to a remote look into what's going on?  I could call or dial in the last week of JUne.

This is what I purchased: MID023465 Movie Studio 2022 Platinum (US) 5929 1 piece 69,99 69,99
1-GROWMYTREE Plant a Tree with Grow My Tree (US) 9980 1 piece 0,00 0,00
MID023895 Stellar Repair for Video Premium (US) 7362

@Jonathan-Barker

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

First, there is no remote or online support of any kind for Magix products, sorry! This forum enables fellow-users to offer suggestions and advice but there are no Magix employees here. There is an official Support System via a Support Ticket but, as I explain below, I suspect this may be inappropriate for you.

If I have understood correctly what the problem is that you have it is this: You previously owned and used a version of Vegas Movie Studio (please note, unless it is a very old version it was NOT manufactured by Sony!) Which version of Movie Studio did you have previously?

You have now "upgraded" to Magix Movie Studio 2022, clearly believing this was a new version of your old program. Unfortunately, as you have discovered, it is not!

Some time ago now, Magix decided to discontinue Vegas Movie Studio and merge the Movie Studio name with Magix Movie Edit Pro, to now produce Magix Movie Studio. Version 18 was the first release of this product and it has now progressed to the version you have.

If it is of any consolation to you, you are far from being the only user who has been "caught out" by this change! (Just search the forum for similar posts to yours!)

I understand that Magix intentions were that projects begun in the most recent releases of Vegas Movie Studio would be importable to the new Magix Movie Studio but, at this time, it is possible to import only the video files etc.; any effects are NOT transferred.

So, in summary, the program is "working", just not in the manner that you are used to! If you would like to learn rather more about your new program, please look at the Tutorials section of this forum, especially for those tutorials created by user @browj2.

Hi,

It is best to complete any projects started in Vegas Movie Studio in that program, unless they are only objects (events) on the timeline without effects.

If you have moved any content (video clips) to a location that is different from the location that they were in when you last saved your project in Vegas MS, neither program will find them. This is not a problem with the program; the program remembers where they were and uses them.

For Magix Movie Studio, try opening a new project and importing some video clips. Does that work?

If so, then you will need to learn the basics of editing in this new program. As Jeff has suggested, watch some of my tutorials on the list in this thread, starting with Getting Started Part 3.

If not, let us know what has happened. Also, post, or better still, put in your signature, the specifications of you hardware and operating system. See my signature as an example.

VMS will pop up with a window telling you the files are missing and give you options to ignore, search, browse to a replacement file etc. If a folder of files have been moved then once VMS is directed to one file it will automatically find the others in the folder.

I assume the new Magix Movie Studio has something similar, but somehow it's not working for Jonathon?.

Hi

Finding missing files is the same process with MMS.
