No Sound in my video clips.

leroyhargrovejr wrote on 8/22/2012, 2:50 PM

I'm using Movie Edit Pro 17 and there's no sound in the clips I've uploaded to work with. I keep geting a error that says...The fle has no sample data. I've looked at alot of other postings and have not found a solution yet. Like everyone else, the clip plays with sound in all other players like Windows Movie Player, Real Player, Quick Time, etc. but when I import it into MEP 17 there is no sound.

Hi

Follow the thread in this topic and analyse a clip with GSpot and see what you get.

Come back with the information on the results - post a screen shot if possible.

Cheers

John

I can't seem to add a screenshot. Looks like I'm at total mental failure because I can't seem to even add a screenshot...

the gspot says the Codec is H.264/MPEG-4 AVC

Hi

Thanks for the info - MEP will handle these files with very few problems - mainly jerky playback in the preview monitor.

As the clip play OK on the lap top the codecs are there.  MEP would complain if they were'nt

Check you have the Extract sound from video option checked in the programs settings, Video/audio tab.  If not check it and re import the video clips

Thanks John. Yes, the Extract sound from video option are checked. In fact, I've checked and recheked. I'm in the process of buying the MPEG 4 Codec to see if that helps.

johnebaker wrote on 8/22/2012, 5:01 PM

Hi

If the codecs were not installed MEP should have prompted you to activate/purchase the codecs unless this was cancelled previously.

I've uninstalled the program and reinstalled it and still no audio. Why is is playing in all other programs but not on MEP? Is there anyone out there who has had this problem and solved it? I'm hoping it is not a button or something that has to be clicked. It is 5:37 pm and I've been at this since 9am this morning...

Just for info -- to add a screen shot click on the little pic icon and then do 'Choose File', 'Send it to the server' and lastly 'OK'.

well, I don't know what the issue is. I've found a "jimmy rigg" solution for now. I open the files in Windows Movie Maker and save the movie. Then I open the movie in MEP.....YES SOUND!!!!! It's not how it is supposed to work but I've wasted a whole day already. I would still like to know why I don't have sound when I open the file directly from MEP.

johnebaker wrote on 8/22/2012, 6:08 PM

Hi

Try resetting MEP - File, Settings, Reset....

Create a new project and import a video clip to see if the audio is extracted correctly.

Hello Leroy,

I may have missed this in the string of posts but what type of file are you importing?  Is it by any chance .avi? If it is please let me know.

johnebaker wrote on 8/23/2012, 2:34 PM

Hi

Leroy appears to have vanished - hopefully he has succeeded in getting the audio into MEP.

@George

The camera Leroy is using does save H.264 in an avi container.  It appears that he is not alone in having this problem with the audio from the camera - it also occurs with Virtualdub, Adobe Premiere, MEP, Cyberlink Power Director and Sony Vegas Pro.

For users of this camera you need to either:

1.     Install ffdshow which is on the CD that comes with the camera.

or

2.     Install the x264vfw codec (a Video for Windows version) of the x264 codec. .
