No sound from other programs with MMM

I'm brand new to DAWs and am not a professional. I'm trying to find a reasonably priced DAW that is intuitive and has a nice UI. I came across MMM and am impressed at first glance. HOWEVER, when I downloaded the freebie to play about, I get sound out of MM but then no sound out of any other program. I've played about with the sound output settings to no avail. There must be something dead simple. I am using the Windows version (is there a Mac version?) on my Mac under Bootcamp for a particular reason.

@MessyEric

Music Maker requires direct access to the computers audio hardware using the Magix Low Latency drivers in the program settings dialog Audio/MIDI tab.

AFAIK Bootcamp and similar dual boot software, which allow for Windows to be run on a MAC OS, do not provide/allow this capability, you may also find that the CD burner does not work either.

Thank you for the timely response John. Well, I don't have a CD burner so I'm not terribly worried about that. Are there other issues I should be concerned about? One bit of an anomaly is that I also have a Laser Harp device attached (via USB) that uses MIDI signals to talk to the DAW. That appears to be working. However I find that if I load up and run MMM first, the Laser Harp does not communicate with its software. However if I load it up first then start up MMM, it seems OK. I have the same issue on my Mac with bootcamp as on a native Windows machine (my son's desktop). The price is certainly reasonable but I don't want to invest time to learn it then discover a load of hardware incompatibilities. Sadly my Windows machine was stolen from our church about 6 months ago. By the way, do you all offer any kind of non-profit discount?

Hi

. . . . Are there other issues I should be concerned about? . . . .

Unfortunately AFAIK there is not a definitive list of what will or won't work. Any function that requires direct access to hardware may fail.

The 'anomaly' with the Laser Harp is actually not an anomaly, as with many other USB devices, it must be connected and recognised by Windows first, before it is recognised by the program - Windows controls the USB device detection and routing.

. . . . do you all offer any kind of non-profit discount? . . . .

You would have to ask Magix sales - this is a user to user forum.
