No sound / audio in player and export

Hi, its me again. The suggested response to my last problem worked so here I am back again.

working with movie edit Pro - 16 Ver 15.0.0.90

I have imported a VOB file from a dvd.

Up until today I have had no issues importing, editing and exporting these files as MP4's

I have clipped up the VOB file edited them and saved them into smaller videos. The original VOB is about 22 minutes, I am clipping, editing and saving them into 6:00 MP4s ,

After working all day today I have noticed something odd.

Within the app if I import the VOB file and start playing it from the beginning it plays perfectly with video and sound.

Starting today, IF I move the pointer to a different part of the video and start to play it within the app player, there is no sound.

IF I then reposition the pointer to the start of the VOB and start playing, NO SOUND !!!

Unfortunately, I spent a do doing clips today. Only the first clip had sound after that. the Subsequent 5 exported videos have no sound. because I did move the pointer while editing the video!!!!

I have had no problem up until now. I have closed the app and re-opened it but no luck.

Did I change a setting somewhere? Has anyone ever seen this behavior?

Thanks in advance for any assistance on this unusual problem

Best regards

@jackger

Hi

Which version of Windows is on your PC?

Did you have any Windows update between working and not working, if so which one(s)

Is the DVD you are importing the VOBs a commercially produced disc, and/or has multiple audio streams (languages) as in your comment from 2016?

Can you post a screenshot of the full project timeline - maximise it to full screen using the small square top right (last icon) of the timeline pane and increase the height of the tracks so we can see everything in the timeline pane. Click the square icon again to return to normal layout afterwards.

A MediaInfo analysis of one of the exported mp4 with no audio would also help.

John, Thank you for your reply. I will try to address your questions as best I can. I have used this program for a long time but would consider myself a novice. I use it for one thing, to convert VOBs to MP4. So here goes:

1) PC is an older machine but none the less adequately powered for what I do. It is running Windows 10 Home, Ver. 10.0.19045

2) the VOB was produced by one of the first commercially available SONY DVD writers. The original videos were created on a Sony VHS tape camcorder. The tapes could be then watched on a standard VHS tape player. The tape player was then connected to the Sony DVD writer. Each tape was played through the DVD writer and converted and written into 5 VOB files on a blank DVD. My hope in doing this was to avoid degradation of the VHS tape and digitize the videos, The DVD could then be played on any DVD player, including the DVD player on my laptop. I use Amazon Photos as my on-line library. I can open this VOB file directly from the DVD on my laptop and play it in the Power Media Player by Dell. The video plays complete with audio with no problem.

I have been using Movie Edit Pro to import the VOB files, clip and edit them and them export the project as an MP4 which I can then post to Amazon. I am going to say that I have done this with hundreds of videos with no issue, until now.

I am importing the VOB files dirctly from the PC hard drive

I imported the file and ungrouped the VOB then created the waveform display. The pointer was located at 0:00 and I played the entire file beginning to end and the audio played with no issue. Here is a screen shot of the entire project at that time.

Once the entire file had played and the replay halted, I moved the pointer to the 8:00 mark and played the file with the player.

No sound played. From that point on, regardless of where I positioned the pointer, no sound played.

I am not familiar with the MediaInfo program and do not have it loaded on my PC.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. Best regards

Jack

I downloaded and ran mediainfo.

I imported the same vob file as attached below. I clipped it at 6:00 and exported as an MP4. Audio is present at the start of the video abut cuts out after about 2:00. video continues with no sound. I did ungroup the imported VOB and did create a waveform for the audio and it does appear that sound is present.

I loaded the exported MP4 into mediainfo and the data is attached here:

@jackger

Hi

Thanks for the mediaInfo data, I can see no issues with the exported file.

Can you post a MediaInfo analysis of the VOB file.

. . . . movie edit Pro - 16 Ver 15.0.0.90 . . . .

I have Movie Eit Pro 2016 ver 15.0.0.114, - you are missing several updates, you should be able to get the latest/last update Help, Update online.

. . . . I imported the file and ungrouped the VOB then created the waveform display. . . . .

There is no need to do this, unless you are removing the audio, and it should not have any effect on the issue,

Try exporting without ungrouping the audio or creating the waveform.

John, Thanks for your assistance. I will do as instructed.

Do you wish me to export the entire VOB file as an MP4 or clip it to a reasonable length and then export. The full exported MP4 is approx 4GB.

I will post a mediainfo on the entire VOB file, update MEP and then export per your instructions.

John, Please find MediaInfo on the original VOB file.

I am unfamiliar with this app, and I dont know if it means anything, however:

In Media info, it posts the "Duration" for the file, video and audio as 5:59. Yet when I import the VOB into Movie Edit pro the project and video is 23+ minutes long.
