I bought Sound Forge Pro 17 online; the vendor sent me an activation code, which allowed me to download and install the product. Upon launching it then requests a serial number which I do not have. The vendor doesn't have it, it has not been emailed to me (yes I checked the spam folder).

Third-party sellers like Best Buy, Musician's Friend, Guitar Center, Amazon, ect, typically gives the buyer a voucher code which can be redeemed through Magix who will email you the activation serial code.
Magix instructions:
Step 1: Go to https://www.magix.com/redeem/
- Created a MAGIX account if do not have one already. If you already have an account at MAGIX, go to step 3
Step 2: Create a your Magix Account
- You just need to fill in your personal details, email address and preferred password.
Step 3: Redeem your voucher
Provide the voucher code you received from the seller, if possible, copy and paste the voucher code from the seller to avoid typing errors.
Step 4: Successfully Redeemed Voucher Code!
You should receive an email from MAGIX. btw. check your spam and/or junk mail folders if you do not see it.
Note: When you receive the activation serial from Magix, keep a record of it and the email address you used when activating.
