No Real-Time Sound From MIDI Keyboard

Mark-Perrin wrote on 11/29/2018, 11:06 AM

HELP!

I'm using the Performer edition of Magix Music Maker 2019, that came bundled with the Novation Launchkey Mini keyboard.

I can't get real-time sound from the keyboard, but when I hit the keys, I'm able to see the corresponding key on the 'virtual' keyboard move.

I only get sound when played back after a recording.

I have the Audio/MIDI settings as follows.

Output: Direct Sound

Input: Launchkey Mini

I'm losing my patience with it already & haven't properly used the software yet. What else can I do?

Hi,

On the track, try to arm it by clicking on REC in the track header to read "MIDI REC." With Direct Sound, you should get a big error message telling you that you have to use an ASIO driver. Select one or download and install ASIO4All. You should also select a VST instrument for the track.

Already tried the ‘MIDI REC’, but will try the other issues you mentioned.

You have to have an ASIO driver, MIDI RED and an instrument. There is a default GM piano, but you should actually select an instrument by clicking on the + at the very left of the track.

I agree that installing the ASIO4all driver is a good idea. The use of the Direct Sound driver is hit and miss. I just set mine to that and it seemed to work OK. Then I played a Youtube video and, then going back to Music Maker, I get the same results as you. I use an ASIO driver and don't have problems, not the Magix Low Latency Driver though because other programs can't use the soundcard while Magix is open.

Hi Graham,

Yes, MusicMaker takes over the sound card. You have to exit MM to get it to release the sound card. I have an external M-Audio M-Track which solves the problem.

Hi

&

Just installed the ASIO4ALL & STILL no real-time sound from the Launchkey Mini.

I'm about to give up with it now.

Also, when I click on the '+' symbol on another track, it says there's no VSTI!

Graham-Hawker wrote on 12/1/2018, 5:42 AM

You should still have all the instruments you have (those that come with the program and those added from the store) listed when you select +. Add an instrument and arm the track so it says "midi rec". If you don't hear anything now set recording going and you should now.

@Mark-Perrin

With Performer, I presume that you received everything on CD's or DVD's correct? Did you install all of the instruments? Did you update to the latest patch?

You say that when you click on the +, it says that there are no VSTi's. This tells me that either you didn't install them or something is wrong with your installation. Since most of us purchased on line, we have to download and install everything through the Store. This may also be your case. See this tutorial.

It may be that your problem is because not everything is installed.

You say that you installed ASIO4All but did you select it in the Program settings under Audio/Midi tab?

I simply select WASAPI and it works.
