No Preview

This morning Movie Edit Pro Plus spent five minutes downloading something from somewhere (unannounced and uninvited) while notifying me that it was "Initialising program layout". Then it got locked into a seemingly endless cycle of 'preloading' which I could only stop by using MS Task Manager. Now when I am trying to convert a recorded video to DVD I have no preview - I cannot get MEPP to play my movie so I can check lip-sync for example.

What have MAGIX done to my software? How do I fix it?

My machine is Intel QuadCore i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz, 32 GB RAM, running MS Windows 10 Home v. 1803, build 17134.228 on an MSI B75MA-P45 motherboard with a SAMSUNG SSD main drive.
It has RealTek High Definition Audio and a SAMSUNG U28D590D VDU driven by an NVIDIA QUADRO K620 Video Card.  There is a Logitech C930 webcam and I have Windows Defender as Anti-virus with Firefox and Skype running in the background.

@rickduley

The first thing that strikes me in the data you have given is: MS Windows 10 Home v.1803. That is approximately 4 years "out of date", the latest release is 22H2.

I wonder, therefore, if whatever update was downloaded (to exactly which version of MEP Plus, please?) it will expect your OS to be rather more up-to-date and may require something from the OS that your installation does not have!

So, as a first step, I would ensure your version of Win 10 is updated.

Also, I think your Nvidia GPU may now be rather less than the optimum for running recent versions of MEP.

@rickduley, @emmrecs

Hi

Jeff - it is Movie Edit Pro Plus 2020 (19.0.1.23)

. . . . I have no preview . . .

Check the Program settingsImport/Export tab use hardware acceleration settings are turned off. MEP 2020 cannot use the Nvidia graphics card not the Intel iGPU.

Also do a full restart of the computer - Windows button, Power, Restart.

. . . . Movie Edit Pro Plus spent five minutes downloading something from somewhere (unannounced and uninvited) while notifying me that it was "Initialising program layout".  . . . .

I have never seen MEP download updates/patches without user interaction - first to initiate the download after the 'there is an update' message appears, which does not happen until the program has finished initialising and the project dialog opens. After downloading an update there is a second dialog to install the update.

Was the 'download' Windows installing an update or, if you are still running Firefox in the background, a Firefox update?

Sorry to be so long getting back, folks, but I wanted to check something out. I uninstalled/reinstalled MEP and all seems well (Windows is 22H2). In the month I have DVDd three movies. It still takes forever to convert an MTS and write it to DVD, and it still loses lip-synch far too often, but all else seems well.

Thanks for the help
