NO on screen wav file and meters

BScott-Fischer wrote on 8/11/2020, 2:01 PM

Hi, I just upgraded to SF 14 and set up everything as usual (long time SF user). however after one take the on-screen (wav) and channel monitor do not show anything. No movement at all. The sound file is there...but nothing to see to edit. I'm using the same Dell computer as my previous SF...which works perfectly.

Operating System
  Platform: Windows 10.0 (64-bit)
  Version: 10.00.19041 Processor
  Class: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz
  Identifier: GenuineIntel
  Number of processors: 8

Also I set my preferences and the apply the Tools I prefer, but when reopening the software - no tools.

How the heck to you get tech support? I just bought this SF 14 and thought I'd get at least a few months tech help, but was denied and asked to purchase a voucher

Any help to fix this?

Many thanks,

fisch

I am not familiar with the AS (Audio Studio) versions assuming that is what you have, You can try setting SF abck to the factory default settings, which is in the 'File' menu for SF Pro. AS may be similar .. or may not.

You can submit a Magix tech support query on-line at this URL.

btw, welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users forum @BScott-Fischer

Tried it...didn't work either. This is SF PRO 14 BTW... I also tried uninstalling the 64bit version and installing the 32bit program...same problems.. I'm hoping I can speak with one of the programmers in Madison Wi to help me.

Try uninstalling SF with a third-party uninstaller such as Revo Uninstall (free or Pro) which clears pertinent data the Win uninstall leaves behind. Then reinstall.

Thanks, but before I do a clean uninstall, I have SF Pro 11 as my backup. and now I've lost all SF fx (i.e. wav hammer) I get an error message ..."wav Hammer filed to load - make sure it's properly installed." Is this a result of SF11 being 32bit and SF 14 64 bit. Should I only reinstall the 32 bit version of SF 14 to ensure compatibility with SF11? I did finally get a response from Tech support, but have to wait until Monday morning to call them before 9am et.

Many thanks for your insight!

Scott

An SF uninstall can take some the shared files with it. Reinstalling Pro 14 or a repair install Pro 11 should bring them back. Revo has options to pick and choose what exactly is removed along with an uninstall

RRaud...

I'm really grateful you are there to help. In contacting MAGIX this morning by phone and calling the tech number listed on there site, I was answered by A Samplitude tech fellow who could not help me. He said Maria -my SF Pro tech contact was in the next room and could not transfer my call. Evidently there is no direct number to SF Pro tech support. SF Pro is not even listed on the dropdown list of support on the site. Maria contacted me by email and asked to record my onscreen problems with LICEcap which I was about to do, when -- VOILA, everything now seems to work perfectly on SF Pro 14...after a week or more of freezing up. I am flummoxed to say the least...delighted, but dismayed a bit.

I did re-install Pro 14 and Pro 11. Unfortunately, none of the SF Pro 11 FX still do not work. I get this error message: " the plug-in was not loaded. Make sure the file is  installed properly"

I seem to only be able to do a full re-install. How do you do a repair install?

Please answer another question on the SF Pro 14 display...is there a way to change the background to white and the file to navy blue - like on SF Pro 11?...I am so used to seeing this, the new grey background is a little hard to get used to.

Many thanks again - your friend in the void,

Scott

"the new grey background is a little hard to get used to"
"Options> Preferences> Display"
'Interface type' at the top of the window has the options; Dark, Medium, Light and White. White has the SF legacy appearance.

"SF Pro 11 FX still do not work"
Which ones specifically? Have you selected the pertinent VST default and alternate search folders where the VST plug-ins <.dll> files live? Options> Preferences> VST Effects" OTOH, 'some' Direct X plugs do not work in 64 bit SF. The iZotope DX suites that came with SF Pro 9 and 10 do not work with 64 bit SF. Otherwise most of the same Fx plugs from Pro 10 and 11 come with in Pro 12, 13 and 14 anyway.

Repair: Installing over the top of an existing version without uninstalling, can restore missing items. Sometimes there is a dialog asking if you wish to initiate the repair procedure or uninstall first. I never did it on Pro 11 though, so I am not certain.
