No NVENC in Movie Studio 18 Platinum

Rendering is VERY slow in MS 18 Platinum 18.1.0.24 (Win 10 Pro, Core i7-9700, 32GB RAM, SSDs, GTX 1660).

It always uses software rendering, but I have a GTX 1660 that worked fine in MS17. I already paid for the HEVC add-on (!!) which didn't make a difference. Whether I render as AVC, HEVC, or whatever, MS18 is over 2x slower than MS17. It informs me during rendering that no hardware encoding is in use even though it's enabled - or should be - according to the Program Import/Export settings.

Am I missing something?

BTW, I LOVE the new editing experience now that I've gotten used to it. Way better!!

Hi Scott. Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Both GPUs must be enabled to get best performance. The program makes more use of the Intel GPU for export while the nvidia card mainly looks after smoother playback within the editor. If you are only running one monitor, the chances are only one GPU is enabled. The one that the monitor is plugged into. Another way around this is to buy a headless ghost to plug into the other graphics port to fool the port that it is in use. I find on my system that VMS16 is only 20% faster than MEP2021 (MMS18) with exports of similar length and complexity.

Okay, I slept on it and took another look with fresh eyes/brain... In the 'Advanced' (button) options of Export -> Video as HEVC, there is a 'Hardware encoding' option. I checked that box, and re-ran the export. TA-DA!! Even tho the render window says 'no hardware encoding', the Win 10 task manager shows it's using my GPU. It does still take longer than the previous version of the software, but the final output quality is better. So, I'll survive.

That makes sense.

If you do decide you want to see if you can get better performance on exports and see the program use Hardware acceleration then do try getting a headless ghost for the motherboard HDMI output and download the Intel DCH Studio driver for it.
