Does the top bar of the Export progress dialog say Mixdown - no hardware encoding or Mixdown ... please update your graphics card drivers.

You've given us nothing to work on. What are your system details? What sort of videos do you have on the timeline? Are you using Size-Pos-Rotation/Section to achieve 9-16? What format are you exporting to?

I've just done a 9-16 export with the UHD770 iGPU and the 3060 GPU and both hardware encode.

My apologies, I wasn't sure info you needed. When I get home tonight I'll provide more info. I am exporting to .mp4. When I changed the resolution and aspect ratio I did it via the settings > video setting menu and then changed again when exporting.

All I know is that my gpu is an RTX3080.

Sorry if that's not clear, I'm at work right now but I'll give all the info you need when I'm home.

No worries! Re your export to "MP4", be sure to tell us what type, exactly. The Export menu is confusing in that it has MPEG 4, HEVC and AV1, which are all "MP4", so let us know which one you are using.

Each codec configuration gives the same result. No acceleration of the graphics card. So it means that I am not the only one with this problem... I have GTX 3060 12gb ram

I can confirm the findings of @Pawel-Rybinski for MPEP4 rendering at least using VPX 14 on Win 10. Haven't tried other wrappers or codecs yet.

Something is going screwy with portrait exports when using the social media Template of 9:16 1080 x 1920.

No hardware encoding at all. No effects applied. Have the same nvidia GPU as Pawel.

We still need more information. What exact version of VPX are you using? @CubeAce is two versions out of date.

We need to hear from a VPX 16 user (the current version). I'm on MMS 2025 and as I have said, I have no problem with this. I'm sure the encoding engine in VPX 16 will be the same.

Hi Al.

I will be more precise as well. I don't have any files that are 9:16 so had to use SPR to fit 1920 x 1080 MP4 recorded video into the project to get my result if you wish to repeat my version of the experiment.

Evidence below only this time also trying HEVC as well.

As opposed to a normal 1920 x 1080 HD TV set up project even if the initial setup is changed from a different resolution.

I'm sorry Al but that does not show the encoding process, only the finished video which is produced using hardware acceleration or not. Not really proof of hardware acceleration success.

It was 27℃ here today and forecast to be 35 ℃ by Sunday. 😅

Ray, I only posted that as a "real" 9-16 for you to play with to check the hardware encoding.

Interestingly, even MEP 2021 exports it 9-16 using hardware acceleration.

Anyway, there's no point in progressing until we find out the version numbers.

It would seem that the practice that I have seen in places like YouTube shorts that seem to be made using my original method is the cause, so try that for yourself Al to see the problem as it does exist but only using landscape video to produce portrait video exports.

Still no issues here with MEP 2021 and MMS 2025. 16-9 source video, sectioned to 9-16, export uses hardware acceleration.

VPX 14 'no hardware encoding' on 9:16, that's with any media format, aspect or settings used for export.

MMS hardware encoding without issues.

@CubeAce That last video you posted was MMS?

Edit - I just tried it again, I tried this yesterday but now I get this msg with MMS2025, my driver is up to date.

Edit again - restarted MMS & now it's working (9:16)🤷‍♂️

@CubeAce I don't understand your comment, your previous comments were about VPX, 'my original method is the cause' but then you show MMS?

Let's all talk about VPX 16! The issue has been confirmed in VPX14 but that's two models ago.

That "update your card drivers" message occurs in MS2025 for AVCHD exports.

@AAProds 👍 I didn't choose AVCHD, I was trying alsorts of export options just to see but not that one...

I tried it again in the order I did previously & noted it was showing m2ts in the Export box even tho I didn't choose that, just tried it again to show you but can't make it happen now 😂😂🤷‍♂️

So, so sorry about the lateness of my reply. Mid-week was just crazy at work and by the time I finished I had no time to grab the info. Below is my PC (not laptop) Set up.

Current PC setup:
Alienware Aurora R13
Windows 11 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 22631)
CPU: 12th Gen Intel Core I7-12700KF (20 CPUs) - 3.6GHz
Memory 64GB DDR Ram
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX3080
Hard Disks: 1x 1TB NVMe Samsung PM9A1, 1x NVMe Samsung SSD 980 PRO 2TB, 1x Samsung SSD EVO 2TB
Monitors: 2x AOC 24V4G5 - 2560x1440 - 75hz

I'm using Video Pro X14, I didn't know 16 was out, it moves so fast. lol.

When I export I always export as MPEG-4. I have included my settings in images.

I also updated my graphics drivers today. Just tried exporting and same error. It's really not a HUGE deal, as YouTube shorts are so small, they dont take long to export anyway. At this stage I would like to know what I am doing wrong. :)

You are not doing anything wrong. It appears to be an unnoticed bug in VPX 14.
