No audio when loading .AVI files that have been recorded using FRAPS?

IMBACORE wrote on 3/14/2015, 12:01 AM

Is this a prevalent issue? There's no audio when loading .AVI files produced when using FRAPS. (Yes, I bought FRAPS; it's not the demo version.)

But if I use VirtualDub and not Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015 PLUS, the audio is there so it's not FRAPS.

I'm using v 14.0.0.166.

PC specs:

i5 3.4Ghz; 8GB RAM; GeForce GTX 650 Ti BOOST; Windows 7 64-bit

I've already gone to the "Install extra programs" and installed the only option available: MainConcept MPEG-2 codec.

Please help thanks.

PS

I recored with FRAPS' "multichannel" ticked (I have a 5.1 surround sound system). Is this what's causing the problem? And if so, how do I circumvent it? I can circumvent it right? This product does list "Surround-Sound/5.1" as one of its "supported audio formats."

UPDATE: I reverted in FRAPS to "stereo" and everything's working fine now. However a question:

So how do I record in 5.1 and allow Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015 PLUS to process it?

Hi

MEP2015 does import and paly Surround Sound 5.1 with no problem.

Check the porgrams settings on the Playback  and Video/Audio tabs.

My settings are:

Also check that you are recording the Surround Sound in AC3 format

About "check that you are recording the Surround Sound in AC3 format" though, how do I check that? FRAPS offers little in the way of options:

Hi

FRAPS uses Mulitchannel PCM audio format for recording AVI.

PCM format is supported by MEP 2015 however I suspect Fraps is encoding in a non standard format.

Can you post a short (~5 secs) video clip somewhere like Dropbox for us to have a look at?

So sorry it took me a long while to answer but here's that 5-second clip you requested. It's recorded with FRAPS with the "Multichannel" radio button option ticked.

Hi

thanks for coming back with a video - there is however a small problem - the video on Youtube has been converted to Flash Video.

We need the clip in its original form posted to somewhere like Dropbox so it can be downloaded unaltered.

Thanks

I hope this particular problem can be solved. Thanks!

Hi

Thanks for the download.

I have tested the video direct in MEp2013 and as you have found it will not import due to a codec error

The particular codec it is looking for is the one that is installed with FRAPS.  There is a similar problem with Sony Vegas .

The fix for Vegas was to install FRAPS first then Vegas.

Was FRAPS installed before or after MEP2015 ?

If FRAPS was installed after MEP the I would suggest you re-run the MEP installer and select the Repair option if offered to see if this fixes the problem

Alternatively I successfully converted, with AVS Video Converter, the AVI to m4v and m2ts file formats retaining the surround sound.

Both of these formats will load into MEP - however in the original and converted video I can find no sound in the rear channels or the LFE channel..

Hello John EB,

I've had FRAPS for several years now so it was definitely installed first. I bought Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015 Plus from Steam. I've arleady clicked on the Steam option "verify integrity of application cache."

Where is this "repair option" located?

About AVS Video Converter, is that freeware? Becuase it would be a major bummer if I had to buy another software just to make this one work. :(

About "I can find no sound in the rear channels or the LFE channel.." I should have recorded a clipe where an NPC was talking behind my character.

Hi

. . . . . had FRAPS for several years now. . .

If MEP is able to to use the FRAPS codecs it would, however I with FRAPS being 32 bit software and MEP 2015 being 64 bit software this is the issue.

There are any  references to a 64 bit version of FRAPS on the Internet, however I cannot find any genuine downloads for it.

The repair option is usually available when you run the installer either from disc or the download.

Steam do things to differently - software purchased through them uses a different installation procedure from the norm and a lot installation issues have to be referred back to them,.

AVS Video Converter is not free however the current offer is good if you can use other parts of the suite.

If you want to check if all audio channels are converted, upload another short video file to Dropbox with the NPC in the rear channels and I wil test it for you.

Oh. Feels like I hit a dead end. I'll work on capturing scenes where there are NPCs behind me.

Meanwhile, I found this: http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ Is this freeware safe and good?

johnebaker wrote on 4/28/2015, 1:20 PM

Hi

I have in the past used Any-Video-Converter free and found it to be pretty competent at conversions and easy to use.

However you do have to be careful where you download from -  should you wish to try it download direct from the AVC website.
