NewBlue effects not installing/activating properly

register wrote on 3/7/2020, 4:55 AM

I recently purchased and installed Movie Edit Pro Premium 2020. This was a new installation; I previously had MEP Plus 2017, which I uninstalled beforehand. My purchase included NewBlue Titler Pro 6 and NewBlue Elements 3 Ultimate. I summoned these effects add-ins via the Activate Content Pack(s) function, using the provided coupon codes, following through with downloading via the Extra Effects menu. The packages downloaded and installed as expected (serial numbers returned). After restarting MEP, when I open the Effects menu, I see the additional icons for NewBlue Elements and Titler effects. So far, so good.

Effects appear functional however, when I apply an effect to an image, an "FX" watermark and red diagonal lines appear on the result as if the effect is in a "demo" mode!

Nothing happens when I click the Activate button for Elements, or the Manage Activation menu item for Titler. Also, the NewBlue Application Manager (on Windows Start menu) program refuses to open. I've already tried restarting my PC for good measure.

One more observation... Some time after restarting MEP, download icons re-appear in the Extra Effects menu for the two NewBlue packages. If I click on these, the packages download and install again. This doesn't make sense since the packages were previously installed. Could these be suggesting that there's something in the program that doesn't detect a proper installation?

I am using a Dell XPS 13 7390 2-in-1 laptop, running the latest version of Windows 10. I have a 10th Gen Intel i7 CPU, Intel Iris graphics, 32GB of RAM, and a 4K display.

Hi.

This can be annoying. Sometimes when you apply the effect and get the watermark, the registration screen gets put behind the MEP main screen. Check your task bar for an additional box which should be the registration box. Click on it to bring it to the front of the screen. My example doesn't show the registration box as mine is activated.

Even then it doesn't always go smoothly. It took me several attempts to register my FX with the NEW Blue packages.

@CubeAce (Ray),

Thanks for proposing a solution.

I don't see anything on my task bar when I apply a NewBlue effect.

I am starting to believe that the problem really lies with the NewBlue Application Manager (https://newbluefx.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/213546346-Using-The-NewBlue-Application-Manager), which is likely what prompted you with that registration box. I am unable to launch that app by itself - when I select it on the Windows Start menu (or more directly from the File Explorer), I get the Windows "wait" cursor for a second or two, and then nothing. From what I read elsewhere, this is where activation happens. Are you able to start this app on your computer? Does it provide the registration box you described?

I am hopeful that someone who understands this more intimately can respond.

Thanks.

Hi Serafin.

Yes I can open the NewBlue Application Manager from the app list in Windows.

In fact you can see the plugins it says I can have but can't even get to download. (Re-Focus)

There are problems with FX. We are not the only people to have problems but everyone seems to suffer differently while others do not seem to suffer at all. I would start by checking your Windows security setup. It may be blocking the app from opening. There have been a lot of problems with websites security certificates that may be a reason but really no idea.

All I can say is that it seems to be a different experience for each person.

Ray @CubeAce, Thanks for confirming and for suggesting additional things to try. I put in a support ticket with NewBlue. Also hoping/expecting that someone from Magix will chime in with more definitive information. Serafin

Issue appears resolved with a different version of C:\Program Files\NewBlueFX\Common\libeay32.dll provided by NewBlue support. While things are now functional, I am still following up with them to try to get a cleaner set of installation files so I don’t have to go through this work-around in the future.

Interesting.

I wonder if they will roll that out in general?

Thank you for the update on the situation. It's nice to see a third party vendor willing to give useful support.

I purchased the Titler Pro 7. I deinstalled Titler Pro 6 for Magix and then installed the new Titler. It works well but only as stand-alone. In Magix programs like Video Pro X or Photostory I got the message when applying the effect "Not Activated". When closing the program I got an error message which I cannot send to Magix. The channel seems to be closed. I don't really know or it is not apparent how to post such a message to Magix. Bad support!

emmrecs wrote on 12/31/2020, 11:17 AM

@Reinhold-Gebhardt

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Reading this page I see that Titler Pro 7 is stated to be compatible with Magix Vegas Pro 10+ and Vegas Movie Studio. There is no mention of either VPX or Photostory. Hence, I suspect there is no supplied plug-in for VPX which is what is needed for Titler Pro 7 to function within VPX.

Perhaps Magix ought to endeavour to work with NB to create a "VPX-version" of the app but at present, I do not think you can reasonably expect the app to function in this way in VPX. Hence, you comment about Bad support is really uncalled-for.

When I look on the Effect tab in Video Pro x or Photostory Titler Pro 7 appears for usage. An error report cannot be sent because this service is not served. And a contact via E-Mail is actually not possible. By my opinion this is Bad Support.

Hi

I see you have already posted this issue, and received replies from Bildermacher and NewBlue, in the German forum.

This topic will be closed as you have had a response from NewBlue on fixing the issue.

For anyone else reading this topic the solution is:

Un-install Titler Pro 7, download the trial version and install it, run it and then un-install, then re-install the purchased version.
