Hi Chris,

Did you see this?

I don't understand what you mean by "open a new file." Do you mean you opened a new project in MMM?

Here is what normally happens.

  1. You open a new project.
  2. You record and/or put sound pools onto the arranger, etc.
  3. You save the project with a name. The extension is .MMM. So for example, you can save it as Chris1.MMM.
  4. You want to do a new project, so you go to the top menu, File, New Project, and whatever was on the screen for the last project is gone.
  5. You record something, etc.
  6. You save the project - File, Save and MMM will ask for the name. You make it Chris2.MMM.
  7. You now have 2 different projects.
  8. Open Chris1.MMM by going to File, Load Project and selecting Chris1.MMM.
  9. Whatever was on the screen disappears and is replaced by whatever you had in Chris1.MMM.
  10. Check your song. It will not be the same as you made in project Chris2.MMM. It will be what you recorded along with anything else that you did in Chris1.MMM.
  11. Open Chris2.MMM by going to File, Load Project and selecting Chris2.MMM. Chris1.MMM will close.
  12. Check your song. It will not be the same as you made in project Chris1.MMM. It will be what you recorded along with anything else that you did in Chris2.MMM.

Next part

Before you record, look at the recording parameters screen. See below.

You will see the name of the file that will be created by MMM for the recorded wave file. In the screen below, MMM proposes "New - 0003.WAV" and shows the location as to where the file will be placed. If you record with this name, the next time you record a new name should be proposed, like "New - 0004.WAV." If you change the filename to be the same as another existing file, when you start to record, MMM will tell you that the file exists and will ask if you want to replace the file. If you say yes, then your first song will be replaced by the second.

So, if you record using the filename "New - 0003.WAV" in project Chris1.MMM, and then you load project Chris2.MMM and you record a new song but with the same file name, "New - 0003.WAV," then your song will be replaced and when you open Chris1.MMM, it will get the file "New - 0003.WAV," which has now been replaced by what you recorded in Chris2.MMM.

Does this help?
