New Version 18.0.2.261

me_again wrote on 4/24/2019, 1:02 AM

Greetings,

Well it's a new version, allegedly. Fine, I'm sure it is but unfortunately it's not a repaired version. The problem/bugs from the previous couple of versions do not seem to have been fixed.

Specifically ( for me):

  1. Cropping/zooming when  the image or video is under rotation - rotate an image 15 degrees and then try to crop it with "camera/zoom shot", the image returns to 0 degrees for the action. The image can be resized using size/position while still retaining the rotation.
  2. The editing icons still do not stay where I put them - eg. crop an image, apply magnifying glass and the icons return to cropping/ zooming which is tiresome if I want to  adjust the magnifying.
  3. When exporting a video the green taskbar icon is solid from the beginning to end of encoding - when carrying out other computer tasks cannot see at a glance how the encoding process is continuing.

All these have been documented previously here https://www.magix.info/uk/forum/mep-patch-update-to-version-18-0-2-233--1221238/ and indeed since version 2019 came on the scene (sorry about the pun).

I will try the other documented "broken" points later but it does seem that Magix only have "development teams" (their words from the News tab). Maybe they should have a repair team to fix the things the development team break.

Or am I missing something?

AndyW

ps I've just noticed that on 03/02/2019 John CB posted that the Rotation was Resolved. It was not! Had I noticed then I would have mentioned it.

Greetings.

Not sure if this was a bug before but now if I try to add a transition to the beginning or end of a single short clip using the transition button on the timeline - NOTHING happens. There is no transition added.

If I want to add a transition between clips with the button, all works fine.

Is it me?

@me_again

Hi Andy

. . . . Cropping/zooming when  the image or video is under rotation - rotate an image 15 degrees and then try to crop it with "camera/zoom shot", the image returns to 0 degrees for the action. The image can be resized using size/position while still retaining the rotation. . . .

The rotation/zoom issue is fixed - 'the image returns to 0 degrees for the action' that is the correct for applying the Camera/Zoom, once you click off the object on the timeline the combined effects work

. . . . The editing icons still do not stay where I put them - eg. crop an image, apply magnifying glass and the icons return to cropping/ zooming which is tiresome if I want to  adjust the magnifying. . . .

Can you explain in detail, how you are doing this please, so we can follow the steps you take.

. . . . When exporting a video the green taskbar icon is solid from the beginning to end of encoding - when carrying out other computer tasks cannot see at a glance how the encoding process is continuing. . . . .

Agreed - it looks to me as though the green bar is registering the cache being filled rather than the actually export progress

Hi,

It doesn't look to me like anything has been fixed.

A recent problem mentioned on the French forum, fade-in/out at the beginning or end of an object does not also fade-in/out the audio part, was supposed to have been fixed; it wasn't. This is ridiculous. Magix is ignoring us.

The keyframing problem with HitFilm OFX still exists, making them next to useless.

Here is a new bug that I didn't notice before. Add a Blurry transition between 2 clips (Templates - Effect Transitions Basic: Blurry: pick one. Now open the Edit Trimmer (N). The transition cannot be selected.

Edit audio in External editor still does not show up.

I haven't looked at the list for a long time, concentrating more on VPX.

@me_again

The icons jumping only seems to happen when I select an old style NB effect. After selecting the same effect from the OFX part, the cursor stays on the button. Please check this to see if it helps. I almost never use the old style NB interface now.

Greetings John CB,

I have to use the "old style" as you call them (I assume you mean the effects not prefixed by NewBlue). Anything with NewBlue attached to the name does open eventually but has a black preview screen (tried every display option) which unless I cancel very quickly crashes the whole program.

I'm now curious as to why the OFX effects work on yours and not mine. I have an Nvidia card; do you use Intel's graphics chip? I can only assume that that is the difference. If it is, my motherboard does not support the Intel graphics and so I can do nothing about it

Having said that, ALL previous versions of MEP up to and including 2018 did not show this behaviour. It only began with the compulsory update to 2019.

. . . . . the second part shows the rotation/cropping "awkwardness" . . . . .

The 'awkwardness' in the rotation/cropping looks like it is due to the centre of rotation changing to accommodate the change in section/zoom. I had some thing similar occur when developing a collage effect to spiral in images /video as they zoomed to fill the screen (dropped it eventually as the effect had some visual 'side effects' )

Greetings,

I'm glad in a way that I'm not the only one suffering from parts of MEP not working as they should. I had begun to think it was only me as not many seemed to be moaning about even the basics not working correctly.

I've checked the "new" features and as far as I can tell they seem to be working.

It seems to an ex salesman such as I that in an effort to become No1 video editor program supplier in the World, Magix has to offer more and yet more features - does anyone actually use all the features currently offered, I don't. But I do use the basic features which are the ones that DON'T WORK as they should.

Apologies for the rant, I feel better now.

AndyW

ps If by some accident this is actually read by anyone that's a Magix employee, can they please suggest to their managers that they make the fundamentals of MEP work as they used to before offering lots of new feature frills. These problems have been on record now for over 6 months and it's getting near the time for my (lack of) "service" renewal.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi

I too have to use some of the 'old style' NB effects for the same reason - black preview monitor and I have the Intel UHD 630 iGPU, no NVidia card so the issue is not with the graphics card.

I remember we had some discussion many moons ago about NB FX misbehaving and there was a footnote in the MEP Specifications > minimum requirements that referred to them not working with Intel Graphics. Just yesterday I was looking there in the latest version and there is still a footnote about something not working with Intel Graphics but nothing to link the comment to, so I was a little intrigued.

The note says:- "Note: require an OpenGL 3.3 enabled graphics card with at least 512 MB VRAM. Intel HD is not supported."

So not sure what is not supported by Intel Gfx. but New Blue makes heavy use of Open GL so maybe they are still referring to NB FX? Odd though because even HD4600 support Open GL4.3 and HD630 Open GL4.5.

Possibly unrelated to your problem John EB but I have seen comments recently from @FredW referring to a problem with 7th and 8th Gen Intels with recent HD630 drivers. Sorry but can not point you to the comments right now....

Hi

The naming convention and version numbering system are out of step the program is called Movie Edit Pro 2019 - please do not abbreviate to 19 as this causes confusion with earlier versions and the current patch brings the version number up to 18.0.2.261

@me_again

. . . . New Version 18.0.2.261 . . .

This is just a patch for MEP 2019, if you had version 17.x.x.xxx then you had MEP 2018.

@CubeAce and all,

Greetings, as you will notice I've got the hyperlink thingy working.

After months of trying to get it to work, using the method you described as well as copy and pasting, swearing and doing a Basil Fawlty, I've cracked it. It works with Microsoft Edge.

I do not like Edge. I've tried internet explorer with all safety measures off, the firewall disabled and anti-virus disabled, but IE refused to play ball. All it asks me is "Do you want to leave this page?" (or words to that effect) and then stubbornly refuses to remove the menu of names losing the formatting icons.

So I'm afraid that in future any contact I have, be it asking or answering a question, will have to be without the hyperlinks. Try to excuse me for being a peasant, or worse, a luddite.
