New User Issues 2016 Movie Edit Pro (US version)

First I would like to say Thank You for reading. I am a new user to the 2016 Movie Edit Pro (US version). As I have just received this software, downloaded, and registered, I am in the process of trying to learn how to perform tasks, however I have ran into two issues so for. First issue is the software is giving me an error code of (Error 0x2F07: cannot find stream in mov) on two seperate videos I am trying to load onto the storyboard. One video is in .mp4 format and the other is in .flv format. I would like to note the video's are not edit protected. Strange thing is that all other video's I have been successful in uploading into the storyboard so far are also .mp4 format. So this is very confusing to me. What could possibly be going wrong? Second issue is I was trying to experiment with the distortion option where you can distort a license plate or face. As I watch YouTube videos on how to do this, I get to the part where you click on the (video in the track>effects>video effects>distortion>"apply sand effect bar to 100%>open menu for additional options>load effect mask>NOW THERE SHOULD BE TWO FILES "HD and SD" to choose from. I have no options to choose "page is blank". Why and how do I fix these issues. Help is needed please. It would be greatly appreciated. NOTE: Please give step by step instructions as clear as you can when responding to this issue I am having. Thank You for your time. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I would like to note, I have been given a CATOOH-CODE. What is this and where do I go to use it?

Hi jay-j, welcome to the User to User forum for MAGIX video (and other) products. Almost all the contributors here are users like yourself so none of us can speak "officially", as it were...

To take your questions in reverse order, CATOOH is an on-line resource web site from MAGIX which enables you to (where necessary) buy and download all sorts of useful "add-ons", like transitions, video effects, music, sound effects etc. If you go to http://www.catooh.com/?l=da_DK_catooh you'll see the range of products available.

Your second issue could be caused by the fact of which "version" of MEP 2016 you have bought. There are three, the "basic", the "Plus" and the "Premium". I wonder whether your version does not include the feature you are wanting to use?

The first issue is caused, I suspect, by the fact that not all mp4 files are created equal! mp4 is a container, not a format. I would strongly suggest downloading the free MediaInfo utility, available at https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo install it and point it first to one of the files which you can import, and then at one which you cannot. You should see some differences in data. Feel free to post the result to this forum and one of us might be able to suggest a solution.

One other thought: your quoted error message speaks of "stream in mov". "mov" is a file format which requires Quicktime to be installed on your computer. If you don't already have it it's available at http://windows10portal.com/download-quicktime-player/

Thank You for your response Jeff. I am currently downloading QuickTime player to see if this fixes the one issue I am having with opening up some of the videos in MEP. I will respond to my own inquiry as soon as I test it out. If there is anything you can add to this inquiry, please feel free. The 2016 MEP I have is the basic, however the package states the the NEW feature with this addition is the New Object tracking with blur out faces and license plates. I can use distortion, but using this feature distorts the entire video, not just a section or part of a section. I am guessing this is where the effects mask would come into play, but again it is not an option, the file is empty. Not sure if the templates were loaded during install. If this is the case, I am unsure how to try and find the templates from the initial install and than attempt to reinstall the templates themselves. Process of elimination. Any additional help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You sir.

jay, you don't say whether your install of MEP was from a DVD or by download. If it was the latter it is very likely that there are additional files etc. which are not included in the installer and which you need to separately download. (I don't have MEP 2016 so the following may need to be adjusted to suit your version). With the program open, if you check Help>Install extra content, that should open a screen which lists any/all extra content which, if not already downloaded and installed, gives you the option to do so.

Once this is done it is possible that those missing masks will be present.

Thank You. I will try this. The version of MEP was a download. NO DISC.
