New update, 16.0.3.63

mojoaudioguru wrote on 1/31/2017, 5:02 PM

After downloading the lasted MEP2017+ update, (16.0.3.63), I noticed that instead of using only 4 gig of my DDR3 RAM, when editing, it jumped up to using around 7.5 gig of RAM. I have 10 gig of RAM in my computer, with another 10 virtual gig of RAM, and 2 gig of physical DDR5 RAM, on my GPU. Although, it currently hasn't caused any issues while I'm editing, it has caused issues in the past, just using the 4 gig, when I would be editing a multi-camera shoot, by it stopping and warning that there wasn't enough memory, to continue running the software. Does anybody know if the new update has done something to the way our computers utilize the RAM? And should we be concerned?

If others have updated to this latest version, what's the consensus please? In addition to the OP's specific question, is it recommended?

Mine is 16.0.2.56 (UDP3)

Hi

After updating 3 days ago (1/2/2017) following this post and checking over several hours in several sessions I seen no evidence of increased memory usage other than that related to the amount of objects etc on the timeline and complexity of the project and effects used, ie the base memory usage has not changed.

It is quite likely the change in RAM usage seen by the OP is related to the actual complexity of the project being edited which would be normal.

It appears that I may have jumped the gun a bit here. It seems that for some reason, on that particular day, my RAM usage was extreme. It's normal now. But, although this was a 4 camera edit, with 8 tracks of recorded wave files included, it now does not use anymore RAM than it normally does, on previous post assignments. (I'm always editing multi-camera edits with MEP, as I use this software professionally. Not sure why some of you out there believe it isn't 'professional' enough to employ it for that purpose) Long and short of it is, I was mistaken. I will say, that with the new update, the software has lost it's glitchyness. Seems to be cruising along fine. I think the reason the RAM skyrocketed, was because I decided to 'Shot Match' all 4 cameras at the same time, for the full 1.5 hours of footage. Instead of just adding it as I went along, during the edit. Turns out, I only needed it sparingly. As two of the cameras for the performance were mobile, and their lighting changes varied. I don't know if the rendering process has improved with this update, though. I haven't gotten to that stage yet. But I doubt it. Once again, my apologies for alarming some of you.

Hi

@ mojoaudioguru

Thank you for updating us on the status of your 'abnormal' RAM usage.

MEP is a very capable program and I find it much better than the many others, and that includes 2 very well known and expensive programs, I have used over the years.

Cheers
