I have tried to load from a home made DVD a file. Inside this file I want to mark the beginning and end and then extract that part. I seem to get nothing in the end but pissed off and leaving it alone. Is there someone that can give me the easy way to accomplish this. Once I get this process down, I would like to add a title box at the beginning and end of the vide I am creating.

To do what you want you should be removing the unwanted material rather than trying to extract the usable section. Check the .pdf manual that comes with MEP -- I looked under 'Quick start' >> 'Removing unusable scenes'. Then you can add your titles etc and export the finished product.
Note MPE is a 'nondestructive' editor. Deletions from the timeline do not change your source material.
