I need to resize images to fit the screen and use movement effects. I see the option to cut automatically, but it's not using the best position in many cases. I see the Movement Effect for Size/Position, but then I can't use a zoom effect also.
Suggestions for a newb?

There are some restrictions on combining 'Size/position' and 'Section/zoom', particularly you can't zoom in on a free proportion area if the clip already has its (overall) size and position changed.
Try applying a free proportion section (crop) first, and then do your position and zoom. This seems to work but you can't re-adjust your cropping -- to do so you have to remove the size position setting and start over.
