Need to edit an existing video, chop it to 3-4 minutes from an hour

I can't figure out how to edit an existing video. Simple things like copy and paste parts of an imported video seems impossible. I have watched several of the Magix tutorials on editing and nothing seems to address this seeming simple task. I have no problem doing this in Camtasia, but I have an old version and it's expensive to update.

Does anyone know of a tutorial that addresses copy and paste of clips from an imported video in Movie Studio?

@Fred-Wilson

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

First, can you tell us exactly which version and edition of Movie Studio you have, please?

Second, assuming you have version 18 or later, are you using the Timeline View to "edit" your video? OTOH, if you are using version 17 or older, please read this pinned post and follow the advice given there.

It might also be helpful if you were to tell us the format of the existing video file, assuming you are using one of those later versions.

@Fred-Wilson

Hi Fred,

To start, watch these 2 tutorials:

I presume that you know how to copy (Ctrl+C). To paste where you want, move the playback marker to that location. If you want track 1 and nothing is there, paste (Ctrl+V). If you want to paste to a particular track, select the track in the track header so that it turns blue, then, if nothing is in the way, paste. Otherwise, pasting will likely put the object at the end of the timeline.

To quickly duplicate an object, hold down Ctrl and drag the object with the left mouse button to another location where there is nothing.
