Hi

There are 2 main techniques:

  1. For like this  - use the Picture in Picture effect.

You will need record yourself multiple times with a video camera, preferably from different angles and then bring all the video clips into MEP - 1 per track, sync them and then use the Picture in Picture effect:

For more info on how to use Picture in Picture there is tutorial here - it is for an older version of MEP, however the principle is the same.  There are also many tutorials on Youtube for Picture in Picture.

  2. If you want the video took look like you are group all playing at once.

You will need record yourself multiple times with a video camera against a single coloured background ** eg green/blue/red/white etc.

Then bring all the videos into MEP, 1 per track, use the green screen effect so you can isolate each version of you, again there are tutorials on Youtube about how to set up and use green screen techniques.

Depending on the background you need you can either record one of the clips against that background or use a seperate video or image background.

** For the background it must be uniformly lit and crease free - the colour used must not appear anywhere else ie in clothing, instruments, props etc.

Hi Brae,

I found both of your posts asking about streaming four videos of yourself playing.

I think the first question is if you will be playing live, or playing to a sound track.

If you want the best possible audio quaility, then you should consider doing your four track recording using one of Magix audio recording programs.  I use Samplitude Music Studio 2014 and 2016 right now and it's an amazing product, with so many free VST instruments that Music Studio is basically free (if you use enough of the VST plugins).

Using Music Studio, you can finalize and master the song project, export to WAV (uncompressed) and pull that stereo WAV file into MEP.  Then, video yourself four times playing to that audio track, and you've got probably a pretty amazing product.

Another advantage of doing this is that your computer will have to handle four video tracks, but only one stereo audio track.  Either way, your computer will have to be very beefy, and definitely 64-bit Windows with as much RAM as you can install.

The other method that occurs to me is to record yourself four times to video, which gives you four video tracks and the matching four audio tracks.  Getting the audio to sync up and getting the sound production/mastering right is going to be very challenging, but if your goal is quality video and not that concerned about the audio, this would be a quick way to go, because you won't get caught up doing the music project in Music Maker (music projects frequently seem to never get finished by the typical home studio musician).

I'm sure there are many other ideas, too, but the place to start is to decide exactly what product you want, and use the best tools to get you there.  Since you teach music, I'm wondering if you want to quickly produce these collage videos quickly without them being perfect.  On the otherhand, is your goal to have video performances of yourself and your musicianship, and the video/audio quality must be as close to professional as possible?

Good luck and feel free to contact me directly again if I can help further.
