Need help to use keyframes for effects in sections of a video object

I just can't get it to work. Set the keyframe at 3 sec using the size/position/rotation by clicking apply effects, clicking on a number so I could set a keyframe there. This is where I want the image on the full screen. Then went to start of clip, using same effect to set another keyframe, but this time changed the rotation info and put it off the screen. My understanding is that should work, but when I played it back it moved but ended up off the screen and did not go to full screen after the 3 second keyframe. I've done various variations on this and they always end up that it never goes to full screen, even if I put some kind of second keyframe at the 3 second mark. And there have been times when at some point the keyframes disappeared (at least any I could see since there is no way to enlarge the keyframe window to show more keyframes).

I assume you have been figuring these steps out using VBX13. The logic of them makes sense to me but the program does not want to work with any logical method.

While this is a "fancier" effect, it would be very nice to add it to what I can do, even though I would use it sparingly.

Just experimented with only the clip (that I exported for this test) and I think I found the missing step.

1. Set up the keyframe at 3 sec (rotation effect, but nothing changed except enough to allow a keyframe to be set).

2. Set up keyframe at 0 sec with rotation effect but did the various rotations and (to get it to start effectively off screen), moved the image off screen.

3. Clicked on the 3 sec keyframe, but this time reset the anchor points (which at an off screen or other point) to 0.

Ran the effect and it finally worked! Step 3 seems to be the missing key to solving this problem.

Hi John,

Thanks for reminding me about keyframes; however, they certainly do not seem to work as expected. I tried setting up three keyframes, one to define a section as the full screen, the second (earlier in the clip) as the starting point for zooming out to full screen and the third at the start of the clip as the center section of the screen, with the idea that it would start out with a section, then at the second keyframe start from the section and zoom out to full screen. But as soon as I went to the second keyframe to define the zoom out all of the keyframes were gone. This similar process happened a number of times trying it different ways. And sometimes it wouldn't let me define a keyframe. I'll try again when I get a chance, but it gets very frustrating. Do I have to define the section and write down the detailed numbers, then go through the process by first creating the keyframe where the zoom out starts and the keyframe ends and use the recorded numbers to set up the starting position of the zoom and then define the clip before the zoom out as a section using those same numbers?

Hi Bob

No numbers are involved - in the examples I gave and referring to the images I posted above with the numbered keyframes:-

  1. apply the Camera zoom effect

  2. selected whether to zoom from fullscreen to section or section to full screen - see image below.

  3. Set the section size and position in the Preview monitor by dragging the marquee handles to resize and position the marquee.

This applies 2 keyframes the start (1) and end (2)

  4. Drag the end keyframe (2) to where the first zoom should end.

  5. Copied and pasted keyframes 1 and 2 as shown for the rest of the zoom in/outs
