My project will not play in DVD player

mum2dkl wrote on 6/22/2014, 10:52 AM

I created my project and saved it onto my external hard drive, since the computer I was using does not have a DVD burner. I then burned it from a different computer. It plays perfectly on a computer and on a Blue Ray Player, but It will not play on a DVD player. I get a message saying to check the disc for problems. I tried two different discs. Same problem. I am assuming it's the burn settings I am using, but I used the settings it told me to for burning a DVD. can anyone help me?. I am using photo story deluxe 14.

Hi.   Regarding your  issue of not being able to play your newly-burned DVD's on a DVD player, did you remember to "finalize" the DVD's first?  This allows them to be played on ALL compatible DVD players, and not just PC,etc.  Good luck!     Ray

Hi

In addition to Coastmans post more information will help:-

What make and type discs are you burning to?

What burn settings did you use?

What program did you burn with?

How did you transfer to the other computer - the whole project or an exported movie?

Yay! I am so excited someone is trying to help me! Please be patient with me as I have no clue what I am doing.

Let's see...I am using Philips DVD+R, 4.7 GB, 1-16x speed for discs

I saved it as an exported movie, Mpeg2, DVD quality to an external hard drive.

I tried both 8x and 4x burn speed

I went to my external drive, highlighted my project, then clicked burn to disc. A message came up asking if I planned to watch the disc strictly on my PC or would I like to make a DVD to view on a TV and I clicked the latter. That's about all I know. It burned to disc, then my disc drive popped open and said by disc burned successfully.

The error message on my DVD player says, "Playback feature may not be available on this disc."

Hi

. . . . The error message on my DVD player says, "Playback feature may not be available on this disc." . . .

That means either the files on the disc are not what is expected or the disc region is set wrong.

. . . I went to my external drive. . . .

Using Windows Explorer or which program?

. . . . highlighted my project, . . . .

Do you mean the exported MPG file?

. . . . then clicked burn to disc . . . .

Using which program or did you right click the mpg file in Windows Explorer and select Burn to disc?

Apologies for breaking your answer down into more questions however the answers to these are essential.

Tip: use rewriteable DVD-RW discs to do all your initial burns and testing - if the burn fails or there is problem you can erase the disc and re-use them.

Hi

Thanks for the answers, the procedure you are using is what I suspected.  This using this method does create the correct DVD format, some BD players can read a disc created this way but many DVD players cannot.

Using Photostory you need to create an ISO image of the DVD which you can then burn to disc on the computer with the DVD drive.

Open the project in Photostory then Click the Burn tab

From here you can select a menu template - a default menu template should already be selected - you can change this if you wish.

Click the Burn button to open the burning screen and select DVD a new dialog box will open.

At the top the Burner option should say Image recorder, click the Start burn process button - you may be asked to save the project do this if asked.

Another dialog box should open askling you where you want to save the ISO image and give it a file name - select a folder to put the image file in and click OK.

The ISO image will now be created - this may take some time.

On the second computer burn this ISO image to DVD.

HTH
