My Music Maker won't activate

johny_lovin_it wrote on 3/23/2013, 4:09 PM

I just bought a combo of music maker and music studio, I installed it, I put the activation code and everytime I click on activate, it says activation failed, error code: -1 and please contact magix support. I repaired it and I feel that even if I reinstall it, it'll be the same. Anyone ever had this kind of problem? How did you fix it?

Hi

If the initial installation completed with out any error messages then as you quite rightly say - a re-install is unlikely to fix the problem.

Can you browse the Internet with Internet Explorer.

Contact support at Magix.  It could be one of several problems - Internet connection, firewall settings, out of date Windows installer, Anti-virus blocking the registration, security permissions etc etc.

Please read this post and include your full computer specification - you can include this in your profile signature so it is always there.

John

I had this same problem once aftaer nstalling several Magix programs over the years and never having a problem and boy was I mad !!!!!  I tried a few different "work arounds' and nothing seemed to work....and then, Eureka !!!....

I entered the CORRECT registration code.....I was making a error and transposing two numbers....not once but about 3 times....not saying this is your issue, but re-check your steps.  It will all work out....like John says, if you were able to download everything sucessfully, except the registration process...its probably cockpit error.

Sounds like you have the same bundle that I got at Bestbuy... I have been getting the same error for two days now. I wish I could help ya...but I haven't figured it out.

I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact I can't even get into my account on the Magix.com site > http://www.magix.com/us/support/my-service-center/ First (yesterday) the main site was down for maintenance, then I couldn't access "My Account".

I spoke with Tech Support he said the same things as John.  He added that Bestbuy bundles were done differently and the casheir needed to enter something...which I saw him do.

(Actually I do IT so I can get around)...

System is:

  • Windows 8 Pro w/Media Center
  • AMD Phenon 9850 Quad Core w/8Gb of RAM
  • nVidia GTX 650 Ti

  • Firewall:  I have it set to allow Magix in and out, and I have tried activation with the Firewall off completely.
  • Anti-Virus: I use only Windows Defender; I have tried to activate with Denfender off and/or Defender Excluding the entire c:\Program Files (x86)\Magix directory.
  • IE: I have added http://www.magix.com and https://www.magix.com to my "Trusted Zone" and I have told IE to allow cookies for magix.com.

The rig don't seem to be the issue...I have actually go into permissions of c:\Program Files (x86)\Magix directory and changed some of those to full.

Two days now, someone has my money and I have a program I can't use until it is activated.  I can't log in on line to register it...tech support told me I would have to send some letter off after registering online and then he would give a download version to get it to work... I went to my Bestbuy to pick up a physical copy so I would have to go through this kind of stuff... I have enjoyed my Magix products all the way up to this point...

Look on your box from Bestbuy and see if it says Windows 8 is a listed operating system, if it is, good ...if it isn't, tahen you have purchased an older version that has been sitting around and thats why it won't install.

Otherwise, just be patient with Magix tech and I'm sure that they will resolve tthe issue.  everybody wants a happy customer.

with web site making mx, on line version, assumed that needed to activate, but in fact in had activated, just needed to sign in. So maybe activation was successful, try a different route to open program.
