Hi, I daren't ask because that is a deep rabbit hole, no i think is the simple answer, there is no known bug that stops playback,

I say it's a deep rabbit hole because it could be your software, your hardware or the media you're using, so..

Can you click your icon at the top of this page - My Profile & fill in your Signature with the full name of your CPU, GPU & amount of RAM, also inc the Windows & Magix version, this will then show at the bottom of your comments,

Software isn't easy to diagnose beyond deleting any temp files you can find & restoring 2023 to default settings,

If you go to Settings & post pictures of each of those 5 tabs using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment, the more info the better.

What media your using might be affected by your hardware, basically underpowered or old hardware might not play modern 4k HDR files very well, so -

there's an App called MediaInfo, download it, it's free & a fast download with no added adverts or any of that rubbish. https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

After downloading, right click on the media file in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the options at the top, Copy & paste the information in a new comment on here 👍

Try & calculate where your project freezes, is there a file there that might be broken?

Try using the selected range blue bar at the top to only play back half or part of the project so you can narrow down the problem,

You could also right click on the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen, open Taskmanager - Performance & watch how much Memory (RAM) is being used, it also shows further down how your GPU (graphics card) is performing & how hot it's getting, too hot & playback will stop,

Open a previous, successful project and see if the freeze occurs on export. It may be, as Gid suggests, a corrupted file/object.

Try changing the hardware acceleration options in Program Settings, Device Options tab.

Try exporting with different bitrate and or resolution parameters or even a different codec eg HEVC.

A more drastic option to try is a program reset: File>Settings>Reset Program Settings to Defaults (nothing bad happens except you lose your media pool folder shortcuts and the settings on the various tabs in Program Settings. This has been known to cure all sorts of weird ills.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

@AAProds @nicholas-l I orig read it as the timeline doesn't playback fully when reviewing before exporting but reading the post again several times I can't work if -

  1. Playback freezes playing back the timeline after editing is finished?
  2. Exporting the project freezes halfway through the exporting process?
  3. Or if the exported file freezes on a frame when playing back on an external player like VLC?
