I created a site with Xara 7 and have the ftp hosted thru magix. Now i am trying to forward my godaddy domain to the yourname.magix.net/public site and when i type my domain in the browser, it isnt being directed to that page. I have already set the Forward w/ masking from Godaddy to my ftp link. Can anyone provide assistance?

Hi

I think there is some confusion between ftp and http.

The ftp URL may not be the actual website URL - usually it is a temporary password protected upload location,  linked to your site from which the uploaded files are transferred .  You need the actual ' http:// '  URL of your website

When you make changes in DNS it may take time.  By using the url link below you can check if you have taken proper steps.

Go daddy support forwarding or masking domain name(Forwarded domain names can take up to 24-48 hours to activate)

Hi,

Both answers are somewhat correct here.  When you forward a domain, yes it does take some time as Nihon94 suggested, but when you forward the domain, you forward the http address as John suggested.  You do not forward the Godaddy FTP account address or your FTP link on the Magix account.  Why would you want to do that?

Good Luck

Hi,

I am a little unclear about what you are trying to do, but let me tell you what I am reading in your updated poste.

You web site is hosted on a Magix server under a domain name such as www.mysite.magix.net/public

You own a domain name that you purchased from Godaddy such as www.thebestsitenameintheworld.com.

When someone types or finds on google the domain name www.thebestsitenameintheworld.com (which you bought through Godaddy) you want them to land on your magix hosted web site which in this case is www.mysite.magix.net/public  Is this correct? or am I still not getting what you want to do.

Hi,

I am glad that I finally get what you are trying to do.  I think the ftp part may have been throwing me off.  I have a Godaddy account as well as a site hosted on Magix.  I am going to put together a quick YouTube video showing exactly how I can get one of my GoDaddy domain names to open my Magix hosted web site.  It may take me until tomorrow, but I will show both the Godaddy side and the magix side.

HI,

Here is the video of me forwarding a domain purchased from Godaddy so that if I give that domain name to someone the site they will see is the one hosted by Magix.  I did not get a chance to edit the audio so please bear with me on ums and ahs and the relatively slow pace.
