Music transcription

I was recently approached by the conductor of a local orchestra that wants to feature some of my music that I have released using the Music Maker 2020 Premium addition utilizing commercial soundpools. However, I am having an extremely hard time finding programs that can convert the individual tracks from my recordings into music notation. I was hoping that the creators of these phenomenal loops could help. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

@DELL-JOHNSTON

Welcome to the Magix forums.

This is an interesting question!

I note you say you are using the commercial versions of any soundpools, good. BUT, does the commercial licence include the right to, essentially, "deconstruct" those soundpools in order to produce a notation copy? I honestly am unsure of the answer to that question and I think you need to ask Magix whether such use is allowed.

To answer your direct question: I know of one software, available on yearly subscription, "Sibelius" from Avid, which, with the add-on of the full version of Neuratron Audio Score claims to be able to do what you want. I have never needed to test it so cannot verify whether it will work for you. (As part of my installation of Sibelius I have the "lite" version of the Neuratron add-on and have made almost no use of it.) I strongly suspect a considerable degree of user "editing" of the printed output will be required in order to produce a usable score.

However, I would urge you to check with Magix whether such use of those soundpools is allowed before considering the financial commitment that Sibelius plus Neuratron Audio Score will entail.

Hey Jeff, thanks for the informative reply. After posting on the forum, I also sent a query to Magix. After looking closely at their commercial licensing agreement, most wording on the limitations of use are concerning the "re-sale" of the individual loops to a third party. From there I guess it comes down to the phrasing of the individual loops and whether or not you can copyright notes in a 5 to 10 second pattern. Most lawsuits that I have heard of concerned entire songs or particular phrasings that were at least 30 seconds to 1 minute in length. After all, you can not copyright a note.

Additionally, I have looked at and tested many programs and most, like Anthem Score, Score Cloud and Finale have severe limitations and would not suit my purpose. Besides having to do a lot of editing, scoring on individual tracks results never include "rests" and other musical nomenclature necessary for practical use by an orchestra. They predominately seem to work best for a solo artist playing a piece from beginning to end i.e. pianist, violinists etc.

I guess I was hoping there was some "magical back door hack" that could work. Maybe Magix will have a solution as I would imagine that if I can get many orchestras to play my work, that was created on their software, it could be a great marketing ploy. let alone if I were to license my works for tv and film (as I am currently pursuing).

Thanks for caring!
