Hi, welcome to the Magix forums.

Since your original version was the Steam edition, I am not sure exactly how this works. For versions purchased direct from Magix the procedure is below; hopefully this also applies to Steam editions.

Do you have a serial number for your 2017 version? If so, open the 2019 version and on the initial splash screen, click on Activate Edition. On the screen that then opens you have a box named "Activation of older programs", enter the serial number for your 2017 version where it says "older serial number" and click the Activate button.

All the instruments etc. from the 2017 version should now be available to the 2019 version. But I doubt whether the reverse will be true, i.e I don't think you will be able to use 2019 instruments in 2017 version.

Hi there,

Jeff basically said it all. The only thing I'd like to add: As a Steam user, you will *not* have a serial number, since the program uses Steam's DRM for authentication. In order to still enable you to perform this free upgrade procedure and unlock the instruments from the Steam version in the regular MAGIX Music Maker version, I'd offer to provide you with a regular MAGIX serial number for the 2017 version. Please contact our customer support, and make sure to register your Steam version with us ahead of time (via the registration option in the "Help" menu):

Hope this helps!
