Music Maker 2015 premium, so many bugs.

pepperpotty wrote on 2/7/2015, 10:40 AM

Hi all,

I've had this software for about 4 months but it's practically unusable in it's current state.

The bugs I've noticed are

It crashes, a lot. It just becomes unresponsive and then restarts, and of course I lose any unsaved work.

It can't seem to synch the files together. For example, say I have drums that start at the first bar, recorded guitar that starts at the 4th bar and then vocals that start at the 8th bar. If I start playback at bar one then everything plays how it should. Hoever if I start playback from any other position then it can't process it and it will still start the guitars from 4 bars and the vocals from 8 bars from where I have started playback. so now everything is out of synch.

Last problem is that it randomly stops playing the drums. I will load a song and the drums will play back fine, but then randomly it stops playing them and I have to restart the whole program.

Has anyone else experienced any of these problems and have you been able to overcome them?

My PC is more than capable of running this software so it's not a pc issue.

Thanks,

Emma

Hi,

See also this thread.

1. What driver are you using? See under (P) Program settings, Audio/Midi.

2. How are you monitoring? Speakers, earphones connected to computer, through external interface, other and if so how?

3. You lost me on the playback part. If you put the playback marker at bar 4 where your guitar starts, what exactly happens? Your guitar should start playing.

4. If you set the playback marker at bar 8, press play, then the vocals should start. What happens? What I understand is that if you set the playback marker at bar 8, press play (spacebar), then you don't hear your vocals for another 8 bars, meaning you hear them when the playback marker gets to bar 16. Please explain carefully.

5. What does the yellow bar look like at the top of the arranger? Does it extend all of the way across your recordings?

That yellow bar is a repeating bar. If it does not extend all of the way across your song, say it starts at bar 2 and ends at bar 4, and it you start with the playback marker before the yellow bar, playback will go until the end of the yellow bar and then jump back to the beginning of the yellow bar.

6. Drums - are you using a Soundpool loop or a drum instrument with a midi recording? If so, which one? Do you mean that when the playback marker during play passes over the drum part it doesn't play? Are there any other tracks playing during this time and if so, can you hear them?

7. If you are using Soundpools, are they all copied onto your computer and you have linked them using Add styles? They should be under the folder:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Soundpools

8. I have posted a tutorial for new users. Since I presume that you are a relatively new user, you might want to take a look. Click on the tutorials tab. It should be the second one on the list.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to reply. In response to your questions.

1. I'm using the driver for my AI Focusrite

2. I'm monitoring through my Focusrite AI with headphones or speaker.

3. You have hit the playback issue on the head. If I start the playback at the 4th bar then the guitar should start too. But it doesn't. Instead it starts at the 8th bar as though I started playback from the 1st bar. However, this doesn't always happen. When it does happen I stop and start, stop and start over and over and eventually it will work but I may havce to do this 10 times and it might work once and then just go out of synch again when I stop and start again. It's very weird.

5. The yellow bar is stretched across my whole song.

6. Yes I'm using the drums from the soundpool. They work perfectly well then suddenly they will just go silent. Everything else continues to play but the drums are silent. It doesn't matter which drums I use, sooner or later they just stop playing and I have to reload the program.

7. Yes the soundpools are on my pc and linked.

What is your PC specification, include Windows version?

Are you using the onboard sound chipset or a dedicated audio card?

Hi Emma,

Excellent answers!

I think I forgot one thing:

9. Do you have the latest patch installed? Current version is 21.0.3.38(UDPP3). You can check under Help, About.

If it is not the patch, then I am lost. I haven't experienced similar problems. Maybe one more question.

10. Does it happen with all projects? If you start a new project and do approximately the same thing, does the problem still arise?

Back to points 1 and 2. Have you had any problems with the sound coming back from the computer to the Focusrite? I have a very intermittent problem with my M-Track as I explained on the other post. The sound stops and I have to switch drivers, then switch back. Recording is ok, but it seems that the send from the program is problematic. This seems to happen only with the newer Magix programs.

Hi,

I checked for any updates earlier and it said there weren't any so yes, I've got the latest version installed.

Yes it also happens on all projects. I started one the other day that was quite complex and that's when I noticed the problems. So I created a new project that was just the sound loop drums and 2 audio parts and the problem still arose.

I might try reinstalling it and see if that helps.

Thanks for your help though.

Hi Emma,

Did you manage to reinstall MMM? If so, has your problem been solved?

I have been playing around with MMM and have not had any problem like your. It is very strange.

Just to update my problem with my interface dropping the sound from the computer, after I installed a new main disk drive and reconnected everything, I connected my M-Track to an external USB hub. I just noticed this and I believe that this was my problem. I connected it directly to a USB port on the computer and haven't had the problem for the last day. Lesson learned: connect these important things directly to the computer.

Please let us know if you sort out your problem, and what was the sollution.

Regards,

Hiya,

No I haven't tried reinstalling it yet. Yes my AI is connected to one of the main usb ports. It can't be that causing the problem though because audio is still heard on the other parts. It's just the sample loops that it drops.

Thanks,

Emma
