Music Maker 16 + Vista x64 freeze

MM16 / Vista x64 SP2 /  Asus P6T Deluxe i7-920

When I do several quick drag and drop from the soundpool to the timeline, the application freeze and I have high CPU load on one core. After killing the process with the windows task manager, the CPU load decreases but the MM16 process remains in the list for a few minutes. During this phase, if I launch again MM16, it cannot open the audio port.

Having tried several audio config (ASIO, DirectSound, Magix low latency driver) : same result.

In some cases, I have Vista completely freeze.

I have upgraded audio and video drivers, but the problem remains.

Any idea ?

What?  They've come out with version 16 already???

Perhaps I don't understand what you're trying to say, but from your description it sounds to me like you need to develop some patience.

If you are loading soundpool objects too "quickly" and you aren't allowing them to load completely before you load the next one, you may be overloading your system.

Then, since it is not loading as fast as you'd like, you are killing the process.  If Vista is anything like XP, after killing a process, Windows wastes even more time running a process called dump.exe where I assume it is writing error logs and such. This can take some time and maxes out the CPU.  I usually have to kill the dump.exe process to regain control of my computer.

Another thing that can be jamming the works is any antivirus program, which may be scanning every file you are trying to transfer to the arranger.  I'd suggest disconnecting your computer from the internet and turning off your antivirus before working in MMM.  Just be sure to TURN IT BACK ON before you reconnect to the internet!!!

Check your Event Viewer in Vista 64

It will give you clues as to what is causing those pesky crashes

Thank you for your help.

What I mean, is that I have some sort of application crash : MM16 freezes for ever. And in some situations, Vista freezes completely, mouse cursor is locked and I have to press the reset button.

The problem occurs randomly by doing drag and drop. It can occurs after a random delay from 30 seconds to 20 minutes of usage. I suspect something wrong with the audio driver because the software seems more stable with Direct Sound than with ASIO.

This computer works correctly for at least 6 months with other applications.

I have tried to switch off the antivirus software, but the problem is still here.

I will try to analyze the Event Viewer report !
