Music copyrights

Kevin-day wrote on 7/30/2022, 6:01 AM

Hi, I have been creating graphic models and editing them using Magix video ready for Youtube. I’ve recently been using Plixabay, downloading music that’s royalty free, yet I keep getting a ‘copycheck’. I noticed Magix software has a music section, can I ask if that is copyright free so that I can use it to accompany my videos on YouTube.

@Kevin-day

Hi Kevin and welcome to the user to user forums.

Having copyright free music will not in itself render you free of claims on music. There is Royalty to be considered as well.

VPX only has copyright free content but not necessarily Royalty free music.

To see the differences please use this link.

There are sites that provide both for small payments.

@Kevin-day

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Magix supplied music tracks are NOT royalty-free unless you select to buy them under one of the offered Commercial Licences which are available, though at some cost!

For a fuller explanation of Magix' policy on this please read this Support page.

@Kevin-day @emmrecs

Hi,

Magix music is all "Royalty Free" but there are three types of licenses: Non-commercial, Commercial (Standard) and Commercial (Royalty free.

Clicking on the "i" button gives you this page that you should review.

Copyright remains with Magix, which should be obvious. Neither you nor anyone else gets exclusivity.

Purchase the license that pertains to your case.

No matter which license you select, you can get a copyright claim on YouTube from someone who has used the same music and has had the video added to YouTube's Content ID. If that happens, then you have to contest the copyright claim. The music is not theirs, they do not hold the copyright, and the music is not exclusive to them. They are in violation of the license.

This is not just with Magix music, but happens throughout the industry, including with SonicFire SmartSound music.

If you take a Subscription to Movie Studio or Video Pro X, you get access to content from Storyblocks (see Magix.com Movie Studio page), including music.

In some cases, where the copyright holder is not Magix, like for Storyblocks, you can obtain the information (some kind of code) to include and the claim will be removed.

Hi all

Thank you for your speedily comments and the info I needed. I'll need to take a closer look at the copyright laws to get the right kinds of music onto my videos.

Much appreciated
