Multi Camera edits dissapear partly

Bruce-Dovidio wrote on 12/4/2022, 5:43 PM

I've spent many hours editing over and over a 50 minute multi camera shoot. I have 3 camera files and after selecting thew cameras as the video plays all seems great until I get to the end. I usually stop every five minutes or so the save. But when I get to the end of the video only the last 10 or so minutes are still in place and the rest gone. Huge empty space on the edit track of the multi camera. I cannot find any option to restore or unhide or whatever. Makes no sense to me at all and frustrated. All of my camera footage is in place as it was. I have a master audio track in addition to the 3 camera tracks. Not ever sure how to describe it. But IO got a pic of it.

Hi,

Did you try opening a backup, assuming that you didn't turn it off?

Yes I have tried at least 5 or 6 steps because I was saving them every 5 minutes or so. Is there like a limit to how many times you can change views in the same video?

browj2 wrote on 12/5/2022, 8:19 PM

@Bruce-Dovidio

Hi,

I mean opening a backup project. File, Load backup project. The file names end with _BAK0 to 9.MV_.

As far as I know, there is no limit to changing views. All it's doing is inserting a trimmed clip onto track 1.

Are you able to repeat the problem in a new project?

Try a test project, switching cameras, just willy-nilly, to see what happens and when, and hopefully, why.

Yes I loaded the backup files as you pointed out. I went through each one and tried to find the one with the most on it. From there I was going to redo what was missing. But I discovered when I stopped the play button. It all went to a single camera in that top line. The software is failing me and maybe I don’t know how to use it. I thought it would save me time to edit in real time instead of manually splitting and trimming segments of video. Thanks for trying to help.

Hi Bruce.

Do all of your cameras record to the same file format?

If not, what are the file formats please?

Are the files missing those from ones with a certain file type?

Hi,

Which version of the program are you using? See under Help, About. I have MS2023 Suite, v 22.0.3.165.

I just tested multicam with two videos. No problems.

Make sure to put the playback marker at the beginning and select a video before starting. The camera changes do not immediately on the timeline. When you press stop (play to stop) the video currently being viewed will take up the remainder of the timeline on track 1 (up to the end of that clip).

Also, make sure to select one of the audio clips as the Master before starting.

@CubeAce  I do have one camera file that is different from the other 2. But I remember it asking me about that when importing and I did as recommended

@browj2 I just downloaded the latest version the other day so whatever that version is. However I have Platinum. Your version I believe is the Suite if I'm correct. It shouldn't matter but who knows. I removed the audio from the clips and replaced with a different one that was recorded separately. That audio track is on it's own track

@Bruce-Dovidio

Hi Bruce.

I confess I haven't myself tried multi-cam editing as I seldom have two or more cameras on at the same time.

Looking at the manual on the procedure for multi-cam editing it seems a very specific setup routine and use.

Have you followed the setup routine as laid out in the manual starting at page 182 and followed the procedures correctly? I ask because you say you deleted the sound tracks of the videos and added an additional sound track.

It would seem to me that if the recorded footage was shot at different frame rates that the required syncing of the footage may not be possible. I may be wrong as I don't have anything similar to test with.

I have used footage taken from different positions from different people (and cameras) and then tried to sync the outputs manually but have not used multi-cam to do that. Mainly because of the differences in distances and the time delays as well as acoustic variations in the audio makes that difficult.

An additional problem arises when any of the footage is recorded at variable frame rates as the videos seldom match frame for frame and need to be converted to constant frame rates before editing can begin. Hence my earlier question. HEVC content is the bane of my video editing because of that and I try to avoid its use wherever possible.

Ray.

@CubeAce Actually my frame rates are all the same. The resolution may vary but I already tried to match all of them to the same and then imported them with the same result. I'll go back over that documentation But I've reinstalled ver 18 to get this finished in the meantime.
