@Eric-Bosaw

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

There have been several posts to the forum recently with a similar problem with .mts files, though usually, I think, with later versions of MEP.

Can you download and install the free MediaInfo utility, point it to one of your mts files and post the results of the Text view here. That will enable us to see exactly which codecs are being used and, hopefully, make suggestions about how to resolve the issue.

Jeff,

Yes, I looked around and saw a few posts about this, but nothing with a solution. I think that it's strange that it worked in the past and not now.

@Eric-Bosaw

I'm pretty certain that the problem is because the audio is AC-3 Dolby Digital. Please read the whole of this thread where another user encountered exactly the same problem. For him, it seems an update to his version of MEP resolved it; for you, running MEP 2016, this may not be possible because there is no update for your version. I think you should consider running your files through something like the free Handbrake convertor to convert the audio.

I wonder whether there has been a recent Windows update which has caused this problem? FWIW, I have .mts files on my computer, which show identical audio codecs in use, and these open and play successfully for me in MEP 2021, version 20.0.1.73.

That is what is strange... it worked for years, and now that I re-installed it stopped. I was wondering if I was missing a codec or something to make it work. Seems like the user in the link that you posted had similar issues.

I may have to look into the upgrade to MEP2021.

Hi

. . . . I recently installed a new HDD and reinstalled MEP 2016 on that drive . . . . AC3 . . .

This is a known issue with re-installs of older versions of Movie Edit Pro .

When you add the video to the timeline you should be getting a dialog popup saying you need to download and install an expansion package - however there is no extension package to download.

Whether this will be fixed is not known.

Regarding upgrading to MEP 2021 - do ensure your computer far exceeds the minimum system spec required especially of working with HEVC or 4K UHD video - mine works fine with MEP 2021 - specs are in my signature.

So....I downloaded the trial version of MEP 2021, but I couldn't get any videos to process. Even a short 20 second video would not load correctly. I am running an i5-4670K CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 8gb Ram and a Nvidia Geforce GTX650. MEP 2016 works great with this configuration. I mainly edit videos from my church worship cameras and my Handheld cameras.

So, I guess now my question is... what version of MEP could I upgrade to and still get good results w/ my computer? Also, is there a way to contact Magix directly and inquire about getting the proper codecs?

Hi

. . . .  i5-4670K CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 8gb Ram and a Nvidia Geforce GTX650 . . . .

This is borderline on meeting the system specs required for MEP 2021 with FullHD (1920 x 1080) video as source files

If you are using the following:

  • Proxy files - set in Project settings - do be aware these are intermediate files and take up disk space, they can be deleted once the project is finished.
  • the Lightning symbol bottom right of the Preview monitor is on ie Blue
  • Program Settings, Display options tab the Video mode is set to Standard mode and HD4600

Then you should get a decent performance out of your existing system with the FullHD 1920 x 1080 video.

Otherwise you are going to need a computer upgrade to run any version of MEP 2020 (the minimum I would recommend) or 2021. If you do upgrade an Intel processor with integrated GPU is a requirement, and additional NVidia or AMD graphics card is optional at this time.
