For AV1, no hardware encoding to speak of here on UHD770 or RTX 3060. Just says "mixdown...". CPU doing most of the work. Analogue AVI and H264 from my phone.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

As it is a hardware issue, the only resolution is to upgrade to a RTX 4000 series, or later GPU.

I am 2 gen behind, I am holding off upgrading my PC until the RTX 5000 series GPUs are released, and hopefully the top end RTX 4090 drops in price - currently about £1600 - 1800, AU$ 3100 - 3500 here.

John, I see Magix has still not updated the specs to cover this and it even goes to the effort of claiming:

without the note that it provided for the MMS2024 version.

Hi Al.

It's not as if the software is not capable of rendering to AV1 via the software and CPU use only. It's just slower.

All editing software is in the same boat. The innovation for increases in rendering speed always comes from the hardware and never the software. Magix are not going to advertise how slow that is without the correct hardware if their competitors aren't.

The specs for AV1 encoding via Intel AMD and nvidia graphics processors has been out there for some time now.

Personally I don't see the appeal. In Windows 10 there are no windows generated thumbnails for AV1 files, just icons, although quality wise the files seem fine but even higher end systems still seem to be reporting stuttering of playback if you use AV1 for 10 bit recordings except with using the MVP video player.

For AV1, or any other video format I can see mentioned, it does not claim that HWA is used, the only reference to HWA is in the version comparison page 'Accelerated export and smooth project playback with INFUSION Engine 3' with no mention of which formats.

Additionally in the specs AV1 is not listed as a supported format???

I believe I have mentioned this before in an ealier topic on AV1, it is basically a 'streaming format' which has some 'issues'. there is a good comparison with HEVC here, and will become more popular as streaming sites adopt it, mainly to save on storage requirements and bandwidth.

Ray - 'MVP video player' is that a typo, ie do you mean MPV player?

Hi John.

Yes, an early morning typo I'm afraid. But the lack of seeing thumbnails of both HEVC and AV1 got me looking around to see if anything had improved on the matter and came across this video on YouTube.

And I followed the advice there and that got me thinking further. If disabling bits of the VLC player worked for AV1 what about the previous almost unplayable high res video formats I had sitting on my drive to experiment with?

It works bearing in mind one has to also download the other program mentioned in the video. Although Windows defender thought that program suspicious, unusually I installed it anyway and did read the terms and conditions which included the privacy agreement which for freeware was refreshingly free of what I would normally reject a software for.

And so far with no repercussions or downsides. It has enabled me to see all my video thumbnails and both VPX and MMS play back mp4 renders after rendering but now with VLC player rather than Film and TV. Only the annoyingly placed VLC traffic cone in the corner of the thumbnails are a reminder.

It has allowed me to use and see such video files again on my system without having to create a Windows online account to get a paid for HEVC playback codec and now I can smoothly play back 10 bit encoded files. I also seem to have a slightly faster encoding experience within both VPX and MMS but that may be my imagination but my nvidia 3060 certainly is being utilised much more during an MP4 export.

Win win as far as I'm concerned.
