Hi.

Have you clicked on the "Activate online" button? What happens? If I remember correctly you will be asked to insert the activation code which you received in an email when you first purchased the codec. Once that is entered and verified the codec will work properly.

After I click on Activate online it says: The file format of C user cannot be read! Please make sure that the drive is not full or write protected.

I recall also having to buy MPEG4-codec to get Movie Edit Pro working properly. I didn't have time to wait a response from Magix' so called customer support, so the only solution was to buy it [again].

so, your telling me that this software is shit and I should have got adobe premiere pro? Mark your not helping buddy. I just got this software 3 days ago I have not even edited my first video with it. It won't open any video formats the MPEG-4 codec was $5 but, than I used a coupon and it gave it to me for free. I than downloaded it and restarted MEP+ and tried to drag my video into the box and the box pops up with same massage.

Try starting the software as an administrator (right click on the icon)...

What is the full name and version number of the Movie Edit Pro you have as found under Help About . . . ?

You only have to purchase the MPEG 4 codec if you have the basic version of Movie Edit Pro.

If you have the current version of Movie Edit Pro - check that the codec is installed see under Help, Install Extra Content - you may need to uncheck Hide installed content as shown in this image. If it is not installed there should be the option to do so in the same dialog.

No John, even the basic version includes MPEG4.

@Markus73 @johnebaker

I wonder whether there is some confusion here between the mp4 codec and the (optional) Main Concept codec. The former is included but must be activated (I think); the latter can be purchased as an add-on.

Not sure about that... The program will never ask you to buy the Main Concept codec. Simply because there's no need to do so. It has been replaced and the "standard" (Intel) codec is better, so no raison to go back to the old Main Concept...

Hi

@Markus73

I agree entirely with this, however there are still some users who want the MC codec rather than using the Intel one.

I therefore made the assumption that the OP is after the MC codec, due to misnaming, which is a common error with some users, calling it the MPEG 4 codec, which as you can see in the image I posted is easily done.

@raj-z

Hi

The MPEG-4 Codec (Main Concept) is an additional purchase - hence the need to go to the store.

IIRC the MC codec fee was introduced with MEP 2015 and AFAIK has not been included as a free addon since then - I can find no mention of the codec on the Magix site, it used to state that the MC codec was an additional purchase.

It is not necessary to have the MC codec - the built in Intel codec is faster, gives better quality, will take advantage of the integrated GPU if you have an Intel processor (generation 4 or later), and avoids issues which can occur with the MC codec and hardware acceleration resulting in an empty file.

@johnebaker

thank you for your message,

1) When i try to load .mp4 files, a MAGIX Movie edit window pops out which says"

"the program needs access to a file with MPEG-4 Codec. For copyright reasons activation is required. Would you like to activate MPEG-4 Codec for free?"

without codec, i can not load or run the video file. this is where the issue started, i never faced this problem when i was testing demo version. any method provided to receive CODEC activation which i try fails.

i will appreciate your help

thanks

Hi

. . . .with MPEG-4 Codec . . .

This is where the confusion arises, as I pointed out in my post directly above your first post in this topic.

When you add a mp4 file to the timeline and are asked to activate the mp4 codec this is the default codec (Intel) installed with MEP - it is not the MainConcept codec.

Activate the default codec and you can then import your mp4 files.

Dear @johnebaker,

thank you for your quick reply, may be you assumed that i am smart man...lol.

in your post you said--

"When you add a mp4 file to the timeline and are asked to activate the mp4 codec this is the default codec (Intel) installed with MEP - it is not the MainConcept codec."

so::

1) Either default codec is already installed when i installed the MagiX on my PC, or i have to install (intel) codex separately. as Magix can't access Codex.

how do i install default MPEC-4 codex? (or what do i need to do for software to access default MPEG-4 codex.

2) if I google, i see many (real or fake) links to download MPEG-4 Codec, do i need to download one of the codec from internet? if so can you please recommend which one should i download.

thank you very much for being patient with me, i appreciate your help. i am eager to get over this problem and start working with Magix soon.

the question is how do i

raj-z wrote on 12/10/2017, 9:57 PM

One more point:

In Help of Magix under "activation codec' it says "

MPEG‑-2 (MainConcept)

This codec can also be used for MPEG-2 (Standard). Activation is free."

SO,

I assumed that free codec is already installed, in that case, why does software ask me to activate MPEG-4 codec? is there any hidden step to activate free codec?

thanks

Hi

. . . . Either default codec is already installed when i installed the MagiX on my PC, or i have to install (intel) codex separately. as Magix can't access Codex. how do i install default MPEC-4 codex? (or what do i need to do for software to access default MPEG-4 codex. . . . .

You don't - it is already installed as I previously said.

. . . . "the program needs access to a file with MPEG-4 Codec. For copyright reasons activation is required. Would you like to activate MPEG-4 Codec for free?" . . . .

Did you click the Activate button on this dialog? This will take you through the registration process.

. . . . if I google, i see many (real or fake) links to download MPEG-4 Codec, do i need to download one of the codec from internet? if so can you please recommend which one should i download. . . . .

None - It is not necessary to download any additional codecs, MEP already comes with the necessary codecs, some of which require activation.

There is one exception - if you intend to export MOV files you would need Apple Quicktime, however there are issues with this - it is no longer supported for Windows by Apple.

. . . . why does software ask me to activate MPEG-4 codec? . . . .

A licensing fee has to be paid to the codec manufacturers for some codecs, therefore it makes sense to activate only the number of licences actually used - some users may never need use the MPEG-4 codec
