@Former user

Hi

. . . . I've just installed the mpeg-4-Codec (MainConcept) after many yrs of ignoring it, I have Magix edit pro plus & have used it for well over 10yrs but still have no idea what n why i need this . . . .

If you have not used the MC codec in 10 years then, IMHO, you do not need it, it is an old codec, does not add anything new to encoding and has an issue with hardware acceleration on an Intel integrated GPU in that it produces an empty file.

Ok Thanks, Just been playing with exporting & for the first time I've got the smart copy to work tho. I'm hoping that will help when making my YT vids, I have noticed that sometimes it just does nothing , or creates a vid file that has 0 bytes, is that what you mean by empty file?

Hi

",,,,,it is an old codec, does not add anything new to encoding and has an issue with hardware acceleration on an Intel integrated GPU in that it produces an empty file."

I have a different opinion to John on this and use it quite a lot.

MC is 3 to 4 times faster on H.264 Software Only (ie no HW acceleration) exports than the Intel default encoder. This is useful if you have a system with no Intel iGPU. It can be configured to use QuickSync HW accel. if you have an Intel iGPU however.

It is more configurable in it's advanced settings if you like to fiddle with stuff, although we recommend that it is best for most users to stick with the presets.

It has a bug with a .mp4 export where it appears to encode but you end up with a 0byte file, but it works correctly with an AVCHD (mpeg4) Transport stream .mts export. I only recently informed Magix support of this and they replicated the problem and created a bug entry in their system, which is being investigated.

I'm prob doing something wrong but if a export a AVCHD (mpeg4) Transport stream .mts clip, then reload it, cut it then try to export as smart copy it just freezes Magix, I'll play with it more but don't think it's going to work, i would like the smart copy to work, Have you any tip on that, it won't work at ll in default mode on the codecs box

@Former user

There have been some good discussion on SC / SR recently. Just search the forum for Smart Copy.

I just imported/loaded a 1:12min MP4 clip from my phone then exported it as an AVCHD (mpeg4) Transport stream .mts in Default mode, it took 2.15mins to complete,

I then changed the codec to MainConcept restarted Magix, loaded the same MP4 then exported it as an AVCHD (mpeg4) Transport stream .mts again, this time it only took 1.07mins, half the time of default. :)

btw i have
