Which codec did you buy and what is the actual message you are getting - screenshots would help?
More information would also help:
Computer specification, Antivirus software used, Windows version and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s) your are working with if this is a laptop.
I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.
Are the graphics card drivers up to date?
Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips, that is requesting the codec on import, and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.
Sometimes a newly opened window gets stuck behind the main program and is not visible. Check the task bar to see if a new window opens and then if it does click on the box in the task bar to bring it to the front of the screen.
now I dont know how to insert my screenshots . sorry!
Christof, that's easy. Save your screenshot as an image, then start up a reply to the forum and position the cursor where you want to insert the screenshot/image.
Click the blue icon with the up arrow in it (next to the smiley icon) and proceed through the upload process. It is self-explanatory. Sometimes, if you try to change your image, the forum gets confused and won't upload again. You'll need to abandon that post and start again.
For the price quoted I think this is the HEVC codec and, as @CubeAce has commented, the activation dialog does have a habit of appearing under the program interface.
Thanks so much for all your reponds. I'm livin in Mali, Westafrica, sometimes I cant get online - I will try out your propositions and answer - have a nice day and thkans so muc
its video de luxe 2016 - next wekk I will get some money and buy the newest version, if its proposed like in the moment, perhaps this could solve the problem. I really cannot find the window to put in the activation code - even not under the program interface
Before you do, note that the computer system requirements are much higher than VDL 2016.
What is your computer specification including Windows version and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s)you are working with if this is a laptop.
What video resolution and format are you working with?
note that the computer system requirements are much higher than VDL 2016.
I disagree with this. I have had the same computer for 12 years and have had almost every Magix version. When working with the same type of video clips, there has been no change to program performance at all.
If you haven't changed the type of video you're editing ie going from 720x576 or 1920x1080 to 3840x2160, then you will have no trouble running the new version. You may just have to set the processing onto the CPU.
When anyone has not given system specs with their inquiry, whoever is responding should take into account that the person inquiring may still be on Windows 7, using direct X9c, have a graphics card that at present will be able to use hardware acceleration with MEP 2016 for H264 and may have less than 4GB of motherboard ram. None of which would help with MMS 2023.
From the last estimation of Oct 2022, Windows 7 still accounted for nearly 23% of all desktop operating systems.
While you may be correct, is it not reasonable to ask people to check and report back as @johnebaker has done?
Ray, we're talking about two different things. Yes, I agree that the OS should be checked, but the system itself, as I have said, is irrelevant. If it worked OK with 2016, it'll work fine with 2023. The fact that it won't use lower-specced graphcs cards is also irrelevant.
I just feel that if someone who may currently be having a good experience with the ability to use hardware acceleration at present with MEP 2016 then found after an upgrade that they do not have the same level of operational ability and also have the need to upgrade to Windows 10 may not agree with that assumption.
Saying it can still be done is not necessarily the same as having the same experience. Some may even expect a better experience or why bother with an upgrade.
. . . If it worked OK with 2016, it'll work fine with 2023 . . . the system itself, as I have said, is irrelevant . . . .
Agreed, that is quite possible, however @Christof-Wackernagel has purchased a MPEG4 codec which I believe is the HEVC codec for which we have not had confirmation yet from Christof.
In this case requesting both the computer specs and the video format/resolutions is valid to determine the performance level/experience that can be expected and advise on settings to get the best out of the computer/software combination.
We have often seen in the forum users suddenly finding their older system performs poorly with, for example, 4K HEVC video from their new mobile, GoPro's etc, and have upgrade the software expecting better performance only to find no real benefit because the limiting factor is the hardware with the software getting the blame most of the times.
Hi all! Thanks so much for your heavy work!!! The problem ist, I cant understand most of all. I'm writer and painter and sometimes producer of experimental mini videos - for that I use magix - I can work with word and i can use magix - even to install it , was very complicated for me.And : That window to buy the MPEG 4 Code opend one time, so I could buy it and got the activating code. But sionce that time it doesnt work. I got a ThinkPad as a gift from a friend, because my big HP was stolen, but its only working with windows 10 not 11. I dont find the informations you asked! At the back I found "copyright 2006 , 2016" - perhaps it makes no sense to bu the newest version of magix? Thanks for you help! Christof
To find the information about your computer please do the following:
Right-click on the Windows start icon, bottom left hand corner of your computer.
From the menu that opens choose "Settings"
On the next screen choose "System"
On the next screen choose "About"
You will then see a screen that looks like this: This is mine so yours will have different details.
Notice I have removed/hidden two data items, Device ID and Product ID because these are "confidential".
Please, if you can, take a screenshot of that screen on your computer and post it here. If a screenshot is not possible please copy the information to your next post. In either case please omit or hide the Device ID and Product ID.
Then with VdL 2016 open, please go to Help>About and tell us the exact version number of your software.
@johnebaker, was HEVC Export available in VdL 2016?
. . . . was HEVC Export available in VdL 2016? . . .
HEVC export was introduced with VDL (MEP) 2016, both import and export required the purchase of the HEVC codec, this is why I think Christof is importing HEVC video.
MEP/VDL 2016 does have issues with importing HEVC eg it will import one of its own 4K UHD HEVC 25 fps exports, however with my mobile phone - 1920 x 1080 HEVC 29.97fps or DJI Action 3 video - 4K UHD HEVC 50fps it gives a black video, audio is fine, this is with either Intel Quicksync (Default) or the Main Concept codec selected for Import/Export.

thanks again for your help. Its crazy because that window to enter the actiovation code opend one time! With this I bouhght the code! But since that time, it does'nt open!
Can you remove the product and device IDs please. Never give that information out on a public website and we don't need it.
I think your system will struggle using the latest version of the program depending on the video file types and resolutions you may be working with.
It does sound like you have bought the HEVC codec and not the MP4 codec. These codecs should never be uninstalled as each subsequent reinstall would need a new activation code. If you still have the original email with purchase proof you could email Magix and ask for another activation code. They may or may not issue you a new one.
. . . . that window to enter the actiovation code opend one time! With this I bouhght the code! But since that time, it does'nt open . . . .
Try exporting a short project as HEVC (h.265), and check the exported file plays OK. \\\\\\if that works then the codec is installed - if not then you should get a popup message.
