Mp4 video playing slow in preview and final production.

Problem?
I have MEP17 Plus HD and I have found a problem with the application.
I have a new android [Razor] phone, my old one recorded video at 720; the new one records at 1280— both were recording to MP4 format. Editing videos in MEP17 used to be easy with the videos that were captured in 720, now that I'm capturing videos at 1280, the application can't process the videos properly. And to clarify, I'm using NO effects from MEP17 at all; it's just a straight import and export.

How does it occur?
To test this, here's what I did…

I imported a video from my phone that was 720 MP4. It imported in to MEP17 just fine, played fine and I could export it fine; everything was good.

I then imported a 1280 MP4, it loads the video fine, but previewing the 1280 videos is like ½ [half] speed, but the audio is correct. Any preview or exportation of the 1280 video is ½ speed.

As I continued to have problems with the 1280 video, I took that video and converted it to MP4, but to 720HD. I imported the same video in to MEP17 and it worked perfectly.

I opened the videos; all of them with VLC to view the video codes and spec for the videos; nothing about the videos were different except the size of the video from 720 to 1280.

Again, I'm using no effects, transitions or animations with the videos…

My hardware?
I capture the video with my Android Razor, capturing to 1280 MP4.

My Machine Specs:
     Acer Aspire ax3910
     Dual Core E5800 @ 3.2 GHz
     4gb DDR3 Mem
     NVidia GMA x4500 onboard video
     1Tb HD
     Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

The software & version?
I'm using Magix Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus HD - v10.0.12.2

Is there an update to correct this?

Thank you,
Larry Henry Jr.

Hi

When you say 'exportation of the video is 1/2 speed' do you mean it takes twice as long to export or that the exported file also plays at 1/2 speed in VLC?

I have a suspicion that what you are seeing in MEP preview is not 1/2 speed, but is a result of frame dropping because your PC is not up to spec for running MEP with HD video files for HD you really need an Intel Quad core processor.

You can try changing the Movie Display resolution in the Video/Audio tab of the Program settings first.

Also try various combinations of Video Playback cache settings on the Playback tab with different resolution settings as above.

Hi

Apart from the slightly off framerate the spec looks to be standard 720p.

Is the Razr the Xt910 model if so do you get the same slow down in MEP if you set the Razr to record 1080p?

Can you put up a short ie 6 - 10 second clip on somewhere like ShareIt and post the link to the file here so we can test it for you.

Thanks

John

Hi Larry.

I was able to download the clip from your Google Drive link, with some difficulty (the site seemed reluctant to allow me to connect.)  The other link seemed to go nowhere!

However, I did get it in the end!  Anyway, it opened and ran without problem in both MEP MX Premium and VPX4; certainly no sense of it playing at half-speed.  However, I did notice that the CTI (the cursor line) seemed to "stop" about 1.5 seconds short of the end in both programs, though actual audio and video playback continued to the end of the clip.

Did you note John Baker's point about the specs of your computer?  I'm running an Intel Quad Core machine and even it sometimes stutters slightly on .mts files (AVCHD.)  Do you have the facility to check the playing of this file on any other machine, preferably one with a higher spec processor?

Hi Larry

Got the video and tested it - no problems playing in MEP or exporting to different format eg mpg, mov.  All play back OK.

I ran the video through GSpot and compared it wih another mp4 file and this is the result (your file is the  bottom image)

It is interesting that the codecs used to render both clips are the same.  I suspect the codecs you need to decode this video properly are not installed.

My MEP reports that it used the mpg import module to import the video, can you check if yours has done the same, also in the Program settings, on the System Tab,  Import formats box bottom left check that MPG Import module is checked.

Have you chcked the software disc that came with the phone - there may be codecs on it - you will probably have to install the tools and any add ons for the phone if you have not already done so.

Hi Larry

Codecs are a big problem as some like those in VLC Player and Windows Media player are self contained or restricted to the one piece of software and are not shared to other progams.

I have had conflict problems in the past with the K-Lite codec packs to the point where I no longer use them.

It is a bit of a long shot, however, it may be worth uninstalling them and then trying again with MEP.

Hi Larry

I think you missed my point about the K-Lite codec pack.

The aim was to try importing the video into MEP without the K-Lite codec pack installed.

Thus MEP would be forced to use one its own codecs instead of it having the option to use one from the codec pack which may be causing the problem.

I agree about the phones format - this sort of problem has been seen with many other digital recorders of various types eg still cameras recording video, sports cams,'spy cameras' etc.

Hi Larry

The 'special' video format seems to be a combination of the phone video format and something on or about your computer that is presenting the problem.

If you have the time, inclination and your Windows serial number try this:

Download and install Oracle Virtual Box - instructions on how to use the software are on their website

Create a virtual machine and put your OS on it, add an antivirus program and install MEP.  Then try the virtual machine MEP with a video clip.

This should prove whether it is your computer or the video as the virtual machine will be a 'clean install' with no added extras.

You can get rid of the virtual machine and uninstall Virtual Box afterwards.

Regards

John
