Having paid for the MP4 feature I find it only worked with the current file I was editing. Having started a new file it has reverted to M2TS files only and not MP4. Does this mean I have to pay a fee for every new file?
Please note that MP4 is not a video format it is a container file format which can contain video encoded in several different formats.
We need more information:-
Full name of the program, the edition and the version number as found under Help, About
Which MP4 feature did you purchase? If the HEVC/h.265 codec then once it has been activated it should remain activated.
Is the issue on import or export?
The specification of your computer system, may help, include Windows version and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s) you are working with if this is a laptop.
Program: MAGIX Movie Edit Pro Version 20.0.1.80 (UDP 3) UG Code 8451 KA1
MP4: I'm not sure, but it was purchased directly from the program via MAGIX (and cost a few £s)
Import / Export: The MAGIX Movie Edit Pro and the MP4 program were both purchased online direct from MAGIX (possibly from Germany).
The computer is a DELL Inspiron 5502 Processor Intel i5-1135G7 @240Ghz 1.38GHz RAM 8Gb running Windows 10 (Version 22H2)
It is a laptop but I'm not sure of the graphic card but the display is 1920 x 1080. The MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 21 runs fine except for the apparent loss of the MP4 component in new MVP projects. The only way around it presently is to use the current (working MP4 project) MVP project file for all future projects. Just a matter of 'clear out the old' and drag in the new.
About myself: I have been a MAGIX user for many years (I still run Movie Edit Pro 16 on a Windows 95 PC).
Your laptop has an inboard Intel Iris Xe Graphics chip built into the CPU.
It should show up in the program settings in the import/processing/export section. If there is a secondary graphics card that should also show up there in the programs options.
Download MediaInfo and then select a converted file and see what the actual encoding of the file is by right clicking the file and selecting MediaInfo.
Select the text view and copy and paste the result here.
It should look similar to this.

If it doesn't look like that, post the result anyway and someone here may be able to figure out what is going wrong.
I may have made a mountain out of a molehill as the fault lay not with the product but more with the operator.
When I selected Export Movie in the File Menu, and then the Video as MP4 option, I went to the section where you enter the filename etc of the file you wish to export. At the top of this section is a list of Presets. By default this is set at AVCHD-Transport stream 1920 x 1080 i25 PAL which would give you an export to a AVCHD type file i.e. M2TS. By selecting, from the drop-down list, HDTV 1920 x 1080 25 FPS I got an MP4 option. And therefore exported myself an MP4 movie.
They say that a problem shared is a problem halved which was certainly true here, it is knowing that eventually someone would find the answer, even if that someone turned out to be me.
Thank you again for your help, sorry if it was something of a damp squib, and not a real problem for you to solve.
Some of us have never used more than a fraction of what such programs can do and may never have seen the relevant drop down menus or occurred to us to look for ourselves to check the options. If nothing else it has taught me to follow the steps outlined by the enquirer to see if other options were missed in future.
Thank you for the lesson and glad you found a solution. It may be useful to someone else in the future.
