mp4 file sounds like chipmunks

I recorded an MP4 file using XSplitBroadcast most recent free version. I use this because it automatically encorperates a second screen capture of PowerPoint and I can switch back and forth during my lecture. It also automatically LiveStreams to YouTube and uploads the file to my channel.

This weeks recording failed dramatically. So I used XSplitBroadcast to record it locally to my HD. The file is 660MB and 1:20 hrs long. Not a problem.

However when I either import or drag&drop it into Magix Video Deluxe 17 Plus, it imports as a 28:57 min film and I sound like a chipmunk. I need to trim a few seconds off the front, a minute or so off the end en delete a mistake in the middle. This is what I have MVD17 for, to edit video! I know how to stretch the audio to make it come out sounding right, but not how to stretch the video. More importantly, why is it "compressing" the file. When I open the file in WMP it is fine. When I open it in Windows Movie Maker it is fine. What might be the problem?

Added. After I posted this Windows Movie Maker got done exporting the corrected video YouTube formatted MP4 file (which is also how XSplit saved the file). Just for the fun of it I dragged and dropped that file into MVD17Plus, which still had the speeded up MP4 in it. It imported THAT file just fine! Weird!

Hi

. . . . why is it "compressing" the file . . . .

Use MediaInfo to analyse on the recorded file and change the view to Tree.  Look at the framerate for the video.

I suspect it is variable and MEP (MVD) does not handle this well.

If XSplitBroadcast can be set to record at a constant framerate for video ie 25 / 29.97 / 30 / 50 / 60  fps  then the file length should be OK in MEP (MVD) and the audio as well.

Windows Movie Maker it is likely that this has converted the video framrate from variable to fixed, hence it working OK.
