MP3 PLUG IN 2.0

Team,

I had my computer rebuilt with the hard drive cloned. I have Sound Forge 7.0. My serial number is removed by moderator. The system no longer allows me to save my audio to mp3. When attempting to save the mp3, I receive a Sony pop-up requesting my product registration serial number and machine number. Upon entering that number I execute on the command to register. Another pop-up comes up and states the system does not recognize my machine.

I than went to the Magix website as I determined Sony no longer supports Sound Forge 7.0. When attempting to gain an access code to the mp3 plug in 2.0, the system came back with a message that it did not recognize my machine.

My operating system is windows 10.

I need to save files in a mp3 format as it is part of my job at the local radio station. A quick turnaround on this particular issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, welcome to the Magix forums.

First, please be aware that these are public forums, not Magix support, and personal and confidential information like email address and serial number should never be posted here!

As you have discovered, Sony sold the Sound Forge product line to Magix several years ago and now no longer have any connection with it. Version 7.0 predates the acquisition by Magix and hence I think no-one will be able to help you, unless he/she still has that version installed.

Perhaps you best bet is to seriously consider updating to the current version, 12.

Upgrade to Pro 12. The GUI is basically unchanged since Pro 7, so you will not have to re learn the app.

Otherwise, save as PCM <WAVE> files in SF and use a third-party MP3 encoder. I always liked WinLAME, which was faster and had more parameters than the SF/Fraunhofer encoder. It can also batch encode and is simple to use. In my spoken word program tests, the difference between a PCM and a 320kbps mono CBR MP3 were inaudible and cancelled out at over -110dB in a 180 phase test.
