Hi Michael and welcome to the user to user forum.

This is a known bug with the new version of VPX 13 and Movie Edit Pro 2022 and has been reported to the developers and they are aware of it. We are awaiting an update patch to fix it, if it ever gets fixed.

As a work around I saved to .wav and then used VLC Player to convert / Save As it to .mp3

I use temporary Movie Edit Pro 2015... but waiting for patch... :-)
