why can I edit file info, but it is not detected in windows explorer?
Things like track number and title appear to be stored within file, but not when I look at file properties in explorer.

I have the same problem. For example, the ratings do not concur and when I go from one to the other (MP3 Maker to Windows Explorer), the rating is lost.
I can get some of the fields to work once, but others don't pass through. Going back and forth, even after closing MP3 Maker and opening WE, I ended up unable to modify anything in WE.
Strange indeed.
If you obtained MP3 Maker recently and registered it, you should be able to get help from support. Mine is out of date, passed the one year mark. Please let us know how you make out.

The problem is a newer id3 tag version. Try using the batch processing of mp3tag or easytag to rewrite the tags.

Which program has the newer id3 tag version, MP3 Maker or Windows Explorer?
I'm using WE version 6.1 with Windows 7 Home Premium, and I assume that this is the one having the problem.
MP3 Maker uses V2 of id3 tagging from what I see in the manual. Do the programs that you suggest, mp3tag (recommended) and easytag (not highly recommended) do something different? Do the results show up properly in WE? Doesn't that then make one of the big features of MP3 Maker useless?
We should be able to just use MP3 Maker for changing the tags. There is no newer version than the one that we have.
So I'm now confused.
