Mp3 encoder activation after upgrading to Wondows 7

I use Magix Music Cleaning Lab deLuxe since around 2005. Never needed to upgrade, it suits my purpose perfectly. I recently upgraded my PC with Windows 7 and am reinstalling my software applications. No major problems, even my Magix Music Cleaning Lab deLuxe installed and runs as normal.

But... I could only save 20 mp3 files. Music Cleaning Lab deLuxe asks for the mp3 encoder activation code. I did have one but can't find the email from 2005. I tried to re-register but then I'm asked for the serial number and that is not on my original 2005 installation CD.

Phoned the helpdesk (Holland) and was asked to email the ID code displayed in the Music Cleaning Lab deLuxe. The Helpdesk then emailed me an activation code. This did not work so they sent another which also did not work. They then offered me discount on an upgrade.

Not happy about this. I was very satisfied with the tool, it did all I needed, no bugs and I don't need any new features.

If you upgrade Windows and your applications still work you shouldn't be forced to upgrade the tool?

Has anyone else had this problem? Is the only solution to upgrade - and pay for it?

Hi

Did you upgrade to Windows 7 32bit or 64bit and which version - home, premium etc?

In general I would update to software which is designed to work with Win 7.  A lot of older software will run on it however there may some obscure functions etc which do not work.

John

Hi John,

I have a new 64bit machine. I can understand that certain functions can have problems with this and if this is the case with the mp3 encoder then why can I still export the first 20? If the not working function is the activation process then that is a pretty minor function to go wrong and I hope that Magix comes up with a reasonable reply to me about that.

For now I have downloaded the free Audacity editor and the free Lame mp3 encoder dll that Audacity uses.

I prefer the Magix Cleaner to Audacity but it's the 'lock-in' principle I have a problem with especially as I also have the Magic Video Cleaner and their Ringtone Maker to install.
