Moviestudio Platinum 2022 does not work

Martin-Sotelano wrote on 2/18/2022, 4:01 AM

I bought yesterday Moviestudio Platinum 2022.  My PC: Processor               Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4800MQ CPU @ 2.70GHz   2.69 GHz Installed RAM              16.0 GB (15.6 GB usable) System type       64-bit operating system, x64-based processor.  Video: NViDIA Quatro K2100M Driver 425.91 and dedicated memory of 2048 MB GDDR5.

The software crashes, the video is very slow, and if you apply any effect, it turns so slow that it is impossible to use. I tried many config and options, no changes or making things worse. I also tried the QuickTime alternative as suggested in the FAQs.

In addition, the support guides on the website show a different version of the software, and you need to guess where are the options now.

Impossible to find a way to contact support (the website make a loop, and the only option is to post something in the community.

I was looking for something a little bit better than Filmora or Corel Video Ultimate (which I had, and they both work perfectly on the same PC) As I used to work with Vegas Pro 13 when I was working for an editing company (Yes, in the same computer and it worked perfectly) I thought this would be a good option, big mistake.

The reviews I saw about this software were from an old version, clearly based on Vegas. The new version is not, and the performance is terrible.

The website did not give me the option to download a trial, so I bought it. Of course no return policy. And no support.

I wish it allowed me to download the version based in vegas.

@Martin-Sotelano There's been complaints that Moviestudio is Magix Edit based & not Vegas based, the screen shots on their website could be better & Magix don't make the licence purchasing options obvious but there are some videos showing the layout & the Trial is clearly offered 🤷‍♂️

It depends on where you access from. I did it from a google ad and I did not see any trial otherwise I would try it first.

Nothing special, standard HD video 1920 x 1080. Sources MP4 and MOV.

Hi

. . . . standard HD video 1920 x 1080. Sources MP4 and MOV. . . .

Thanks for the information.

. . . . Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4800MQ  . . . .

You should be able to improve the performance as follows:

  1. Ensure Hardware Acceleration (HWA) on the GPU is being used:

In the Program settings, Device options ensure the Import, Processing and Export settings are set to the Intel HD4600 GPU - if it is not available check the computer BIOS settings to ensure it is enabled.

  2. See this Intel article and ensure that you are not on the latest drivers for the HD4600, if you are then revert back to the previous version.

  3. Turn on the Automatically create proxy files option in the Project settings.

This will create lower resolution versions of the source files for Preview purposes reducing the load on the processor and iGPU. These files, which are not used for exporting, will be in the same folder as the original video and can be deleted when the project has been finished to recover the extra disk space used.

  4. Ensure the lightning symbol bottom right of the Preview monitor is turned on (blue) this will also improve preview performance

Note:

The Quadro K2100M does not support NVENC and cannot be used for HWA.

Should you need to work with higher resolution video eg 2.7K or higher than the computer is going to have very poor performance as no HWA will be available - the Intel HD4600 only supports up to Full HD 1920 x 1080.

Hi John.

I did everything you said.

First, replace the driver, also clean the computer and re-install Movie Studio as I did uninstall it before as it was not working.

I did also check the movie files to be sure that originally was filmed in HD and not higher resolutions.

Setup all your suggestions in Movie Studio.

First, change: It took more than 5 minutes to add a 20 minutes mov file to the timeline as it was creating the proxy.

Yes, the preview and basic editing worked fine, but it did it before too. Creating the proxy only slowed down my work a lot.

Then I did add a couple of effects, just to try, and one transition. Same as before, the video was very slow and jumped frames.

Conclusion: unfortunately no changes and the only one was slowing down the workflow by creating the proxy files.

Thank you for your help, Movie Studio is a waste of time and money.

Just for fun (I prefer not to pay for software monthly), I did download the trial of Vegas and it works perfectly. Unfortunately, I am not able to pay for that software too. I will work with Filmora and Corel Video Ultimate, they are not the best option for me but at least they did work perfect and smooth from the beginning.

Movie Studio was uninstalled (again), I wish there is an option to get my money back.

Hi, maybe a waste of time & money for you but you have a CPU that was released in 2013 & a graphics card that only has 2GB of memory, unfortunately time's move on so i don't think blaming Movie Studio is realistic, & It seems you looked for a trail, didn't see one so bought it anyway, I'd have looked a bit deeper into it, Magix main website would have come top of the list of searches & the trial i posted a pic of would have been obvious, it wouldn't have been hard to find, you bought this product unseen & untrialled, you bought it on a gamble & that gamble didn't pay off,

If you only bought Movie Studio 'yesterday' then "You have the right to withdraw from this contract within fourteen days without stating a reason". John or someone will point you in the right direction for that.

Hi

Email Magix asking for a refund to - infoservice@magix.net

Unfortunately while Movie Studio 2022 will run on older PC's there is no guarantee that it will run smoothly even with the changes made above.

The newer versions of Vegas Edit and Pro may not be usable as they have a higher hardware specification, the i7-4800MQ and NViDIA Quatro K2100M are well below the minimum specification required, the same can be said for most modern video editing programs.

If a new modern PC is not an option and as you have used Vegas Pro 13, I think you may have to revert back to this, if you can get it - it uses older technology which is less demanding on hardware requirements.

I respect your point, but I can't entirely agree with it. Movie Studio is not "professional" software. It is user friendly for hobbyists. My computer maybe not be the latest one, but it is a pretty powerful one, I am a professional photographer, and I manage quite a high volume of HQ images. No problem at all. In addition, other video software such as the latest Filmora and Corel Ultimate video 2021 works perfectly. I think Movie Studio should be more "hardware friendly".

If my main job is to edit movies, I will update my computer and buy professional video editing software, but to make some movies now and then, I cannot see the point.

Regarding the trial option, I wish I had taken a picture. There was no trial option. I do not know if you know that websites do not show the same version up to where the people access from. The first time I accessed the website was from a web link from a review, with USS dollars and no trial. The second time, after my registration, it was a different one.

I did not buy the software "unseen"; I bought it based on reviews I found and clicked the links there.

I wish someone could point me in the right direction to get the option to withdraw as I cannot find it on the website. I bought it on 18/02/22.

Enough. Stop the haranguing.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
