Hi Brian

Check the program settings, Video/Audio tab, Import video with sound option, is still checked, and, if you turned off (unchecked) the option Video/Audio on one track, that it is still unchecked.

John,

its still checked...and they were there before its only when i did a test export i noticed the silence

i also usually have video and audio on same track so its ticked

unless i am adding music from another source and want to separate the audio and video on source

i also ended up with all my text entries jumping from another line below and overlaying on the video track

i also had txt boxes for one entry on 3 lines and had to delete the first two and leave the 3rd fully populated txt box

i think i messed up somewhere a few times

but its all sorted and i have restored my audio to videos

you build confidence in this fab program then you get issues that make you feel uneasy

and you worry you will not fix the problem

and need to start again

Hi Brian

. . . . i think i messed up somewhere a few times . . . .

Much more likely, and I have occasionally experienced this, is that the mouse action is in the wrong mode.

I use the keyboard shortcuts for Single object, Single track, and All tracks modes, however I found the default shortcuts 6, 8, and 7 respectively to be in the wrong order for me - I swapped 7 and 8 which IMHO is a more friendly and logical order.

I also changed several other keyboard shortcuts for my way of working using a Contour Shuttle, keyboard and mouse.

Hi Brian,

A few things:

i also usually have video and audio on same track so its ticked unless i am adding music from another source and want to separate the audio and video on source

I strongly suggest that you turn on video and audio on separate tracks, always (well, almost), that is, uncheck "Video/Audio on one track" in the Program Settings.

Why? Look at the waveform. If it's too high, you may way want to reduce the volume. If there are some spikes and everything else is faint, then you may want to use the object volume curve to reduce the volume just at the spikes and then raise the overall volume. Or you may want to just reduce the volume of some parts that you don't want to hear, breaths, someone talking that shouldn't be there, etc. Learn to use the volume curve.

When you add in music, remember that Magix music and sound effects will automatically try to go on track 5, so keep track 5 free for this.

If you want to reduce the audio of the video when the music is playing but duck the music when you have someone talking in the video, split the video/audio on each side of the speech. You can now reduce the volume of the audio on each side of the speech. Then do ducking or what Magix calls damping. Right-click on the audio speech part, and select Decrease Volume. Look at the interface. I use 12 dB reduction. Accepting this will add a track volume curve to all other tracks that have audio and reduce the volume for the duration of the speech that was selected. This should always be done at the very end of editing as the the track volume curve is independent of the objects. If you move the music, the damped part doesn't follow it.

EDIT:

I suggest that you watch my 2 tutorials on Everything Audio to better understand the audio features of MMS:

Other very important Shortcuts:

Z - Remove the start, that is, whatever is before the playback marker on the selected object.

U - Remove the end, that is, whatever is after the playback marker on the selected object.

6 - Mouse mode for a single object.

If you are in Mouse mode for a single track (shortcut 8), using Z or U will move everything on that track to close up the gap left by trimming the object.

If you are in Mouse mode for a all tracks (shortcut 7), using Z or U will move everything on all tracks to close up the gap left by trimming the object.

Return to 6 after doing either of the above.

Try them out to get familiar with them.

Hi John.

When you add in music, remember that Magix music and sound effects will automatically try to go on track 5, so keep track 5 free for this.

You have always stated this and I have never tested that theory as I have always selected the track I want to put audio onto before adding additional sound tracks. I have never had a problem doing that.

How did you find that to be the case? Surely you need to select or drag a sound object and place it where it is needed or is this a keyboard shortcut selection problem rather than using a mouse to place an audio object?

If the latter, I understand why I have never seen that behaviour.

Ray.

Nope just add music as shown below - do not select a track or use drag and drop.

Hi John.

So it's my preselection of a track that has avoided me ever seeing that happen. Just goes to show the difference in workflow habits. I also noticed you had nothing on any other tracks as well. I normally drag and drop as I would not normally put a solitary sound file right at the beginning of a project.

Ray.

Yes. Tthe empty tracks do not affect the behaviour shown.

There is more !

There are various 'Paste modes' which affect what happens when adding objects whether images, video or audio, that affect where an object is inserted - see Paste modes in the manual.

Selecting a track and inserting, not drag and drop, an image, video or audio, the object is inserted at the timeline cursor position where possible, or, after the last object on the selected track.
